Brandon Bass and the Celtics have agreed to a contract extension, the Boston Globe reports. While Bass’s agent Tony Dutt would only say that it was a “multiyear” deal, it is believed that it is a $20 million, three-year deal.

Dutt said of the deal, “This is where he always wanted to be. So it was just a matter of getting it done which was something both the Celtics and Brandon felt pretty good about making happen.”

Out of 59 games, Bass played 39 as a starting power forward in his first season with the Celtics, averaging a career-high 12.5 points and 6.2 rebounds. He also made 48 percent of his shots from 16-23 feet, putting him on par with teammate Kevin Garnett and the Dallas Mavericks’ Dirk Nowitzki.

Bass was acquired by Boston from the Orlando Magic in a trade for Glen Davis and Von Wafer. He became a free agent after deciding not to pick up a $4.25 million player option, but said that he always wanted to remain with the Celtics. He told WEEI in June, ”I would love to be back here. The fans here are unbelievable. For any player, this organization is the organization that you want to play for… This group here was like family.”

Boston is still trying to bring back Ray Allen and Jeff Green, but the recent signing of Jason Terry for the full mid-level exception and the resigning of Bass were big wins for the team.

Brandon Bass can’t officially resign with the team until July 11, when the NBA’s 10-day free agency moratorium is finished.
