The question of how do you lose a Governor is about to be answered as Mark Sanford, the Governor of South Carolina has disappeared.

Sanford’s wife, State police and even his staff claim they don’t know where Sanford is, and he has switched off all mobile phones so he can’t be contacted or traced. He hasn’t been seen in four days.

Concern that something serious having happened though was allayed when his lawyers told the press that Sanford “was taking time to recharge after his failed fight against federal stimulus money.” Where ever Sanford is though, the media attention surrounding his disappearance must have reached him, as he has since called in to say that he’s ok, and that he’s “hiking on the Appalachian Trail”….. because that’s apparently what Governors do without telling anyone before leaving.
