Ansel Elgort Being Considered For Star Of Han Solo Spin-Off — Who Else Is Up For The Part?

The co-writer of Star Wars: The Force Awakens Lawrence Kasdan is reportedly working on a Han Solo spin-off movie, featuring the iconic character as a young man. A previous report from The Inquisitr revealed that while the film won’t be a Han Solo origin story, it will feature a young actor portraying the role that Harrison Ford made famous. A number of notable fresh faces are being considered for the part of a youthful Solo, including The Fault In Our Stars lead man Ansel Elgort.

According to Vanity Fair, the giant list of more than 2,500 potential Han Solos has been whittled down to a fine few. All of the biggest names on the list have starred in some adaptation of a young adult novel. Up for the part alongside Ansel Elgort are Miles Teller from the Divergent series and Whiplash, Dave Franco from Warm Bodies and Neighbors and Logan Lerman from The Perks of Being a Wallflower.

All of these actors have very unique qualities, which Vanity Fair points out do not really match up to the sarcastic snark of Harrison Ford’s Han Solo. Even so, Ansel Elgort, Dave Franco, Miles Teller, and Logan Lerman have all portrayed characters who exude as much confidence as Han Solo does in his four Star Wars films.

But there are also some lesser-known actors on the list beside Ansel Elgort and Miles Teller, including Jack Reynor, Emory Cohen, and Blake Jenner. Clint Eastwood’s son Scott Eastwood is even up for consideration, who already recently passed on a major film opportunity when he turned down a role in Fifty Shades of Grey. While the rising star power of someone like Ansel Elgort could improve the Han Solo film’s chance of success, Lucasfilm already found a great deal of success from casting unknowns in the Force Awakens like John Boyega and Daisy Ridley.

While Kasdan appears to be the brainchild behind the Han Solo spin-0ff, the film will be directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller.

Shooting for the movie will begin in exactly a year, but the production company plans to have the Han Solo picked within the next few weeks. Check back with The Inquisitr for the official announcement on who gets to portray the new Han Solo. But before the official film gets released, Star Wars fans may get a glimpse at Ansel Elgort, Dave Franco, Miles Teller or someone else as Han Solo; because rumor has it the character will make a cameo in the upcoming prequel film Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

But not everybody is excited about seeing Han Solo portrayed by a less experienced actor like Ansel Elgort or Logan Lerman. Harrison Ford, for one, doesn’t want anything to do with the spin-off. And the Atlantic recently published an article making the case for why the world doesn’t need a young Han Solo.

“Elgort, or Franco, or whomever is cast in this upcoming film won’t be so lucky— they’ll have to live up to the memory of a character who’s almost universally adored by audiences, and do it in a film that can’t have any bearing on the future of the Star Wars franchise, given that it’s set before Lucas’s original films.”

Who do you think should play Han Solo in the spin-off? Is Ansel Elgort the perfect fit? Or would somebody with bigger comedy chops like Dave Franco fit the bill?
