‘Prison Break’ Sequel Still Happening, Runs Into Issues With ‘Legends Of Tomorrow’ Schedule

Fans of Prison Break are excited about the sequel coming out, but there is no word on exactly when it will be released. Yahoo is sharing that the release of Prison Break is not going to happen as soon as they originally wanted simply because Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell are both very busy. They are both part of the show Legends of Tomorrow, which is getting 16 episodes for its first season. This other major commitment is making it hard to schedule production for Prison Break.

This weekend, Dominic Purcell talked about Prison Break and what is going now. Purcell talked to TVLine on Sunday at the Television Critics Association winter press tour in Pasadena. He confirmed that Warner Bros. and 20th Century Fox, the studios behind both shows, are currently hard at work “negotiating the complexities” of a potential deal. Dominic said that Prison Break is still happening; he just didn’t share details regarding how soon Prison Break might be able to start filming.

Wentworth Miller also revealed what is currently going on with Prison Break.

“There are a lot of moving parts to that conversation, but we are hopeful that we’ll be able to shoot something this spring. Prison Break is taking its cue from Legends, which is the priority. So we’re aiming for spring.”

Legends of Tomorrow is the show that takes priority, notably because its debut is nearly upon us. The first episode airs on January 21. Legends is a spin-off series of Arrow and The Flash, and may need to be a priority to maintain its synchronicity and crossover potential with the other two series.

For Prison Break fans, that news may come with little solace. It also doesn’t help narrow down a date of when the show will start to film or a potential premiere date. Fox CEO Dana Walden did share a few details a while back about the show.

“I would describe it as a bit of a sequel. It picks up the characters several years after we left them in the last season of the show. The brothers will be back. Some of the iconic characters from that show will be back. I don’t think [exec producer] Paul [Scheuring] knows exactly where he’s going over the 10-episode arc, but it definitely will address some questions that were set up at the end of the series for a new audience.”

Prison Break fans also really want to know what to expect when the show returns. Christian Today shared how Prison Break will bring back fan favorite Michael Scofield. In the fourth season of Prison Break they killed off Scofield, but his character played by Wentworth Miller is already confirmed to be coming back for the upcoming sequel. Dana Walden shared that the Prison Break sequel will give “a logical and believable explanation to why the characters are alive and still moving around the world.” When Prison Break returns, it will be several years after the show ended. There is a lot of speculation that Michael Scofield faked his death.

At this point, it looks like Prison Break could start shooting in the spring, but there is no exact date. If a spring shoot happens, then the return of Prison Break could end up happening next fall.

Are you excited about the return of Prison Break? How do you think that Michael Scofield will return to Prison Break still alive? Sound off in the comments below, and don’t miss Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell in Legends of Tomorrow when it comes to the CW on January 21.
