Will ‘Mr. Robot’ And Rami Malek Pull A Huge Upset And Beat ‘Outlander’ For Best Drama At The 2016 Golden Globes? [Update]

Update – Mr. Robot beat out Outlander, Game of Thrones, Narcos and Empire to take home the Golden Globe for Best TV Series Drama.

The upcoming Golden Globe Awards are set to feature a number of new and exciting shows. Topping the list of unexpected shows in this year’s ceremony is USA Network’s Mr. Robot. How will this new series stack up against the competition on Sunday?

According to Entertainment Weekly, Mr. Robot has been nominated for a total of three different categories. This includes a slot for Best Series, Best Supporting Actor in Christian Slater, and Best Actor in Rami Malek.

For those who haven’t watched the series, the Washington Post is reporting that the thriller follows a talented hacker named Elliot Alderson, played by Malek. Alderson uses his skills as a hacker to become a kind of cyber vigilante. Before long, Alderson is recruited by a group of hackers led by Slater’s enigmatic character, Mr. Robot.

Shortly after being nominated, Malek told the outlet that he is very surprised to be given the opportunity to win the award.

“I’ve started to really believe for the first time that it wasn’t just in my head,” he stated.

For his part, Slater praised the cast and crew for their hard work on the show and credited them as being the primary force behind the show’s success.

“This is an extraordinarily talented team of people,” Slated said, adding that the show’s creator, Sam Esmail, has a great ability to make difficult subjects easy to understand.

While the show has managed to make enough woes to pull down three nominations, what are the chances of it actually winning in any of the categories? According to TV Guide, the show has just the right amount of thrills and popularity that judges tend to vote for. Additionally, the USA Network has only won one Golden Globe in the past, making it more likely that the Hollywood Foreign Press Association will give the network at least one award.

That being said, Mr. Robot will face some tough competition for Best Series. The show’s biggest competition is undoubtedly Outlander. Like Mr. Robot, Outlander is an insanely popular new series that has already managed to win a number of awards this past year. Given the tight race, the bid for Best Series might be the closest in recent years.

In the end, E! Online is reporting that Mr. Robot has a slight edge over Outlander in taking home the award for Best Series. This is large part due to the popularity of the series, but also because of its quality and ability to keep audiences captivated with every new twist.

Whether or not Mr. Robot turns out to be the surprising winner at this year’s Golden Globes ceremony is yet to be seen. Whatever ends up happening, Malek went on to tell Entertainment Weekly that the nominations will only serve to motivate him to up his game even more in the show’s second season, which is just about ready to start production.

“This is a huge moment for us, and it’s definitely going to put even more steam behind us as we begin season 2. But we know that we have a duty to this story and to the people who have latched onto this show and been affected by it in such a tangible way,” Malek explained in the interview. “There’s no way we’re going to let anybody down.”

As far as what he plans to wear during the prestigious ceremony, Malek will not be appearing in his character’s typical black hoodie.

“I’m going designer on this one,” he admitted. “This occasion deserves it.”
