Jennifer Lawrence Among The Many A-List Actors Competing At The Golden Globes

The 2016 Golden Globe Awards will be premiering on Sunday, January 10, and Jennifer Lawrence is one of the many top contestants. The Golden Globes recently announced all of the nominees for each category, and Jennifer Lawrence has some tough competition. Will Jennifer Lawrence have what it takes to beat some of the best actresses in today’s society, such as Melissa McCarthy or Amy Schumer?

With her amazing performance in David O. Russell’s movie Joy, Jennifer Lawrence was nominated for Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture for a Musical or Comedy. The movie staring Jennifer Lawrence also earned a nomination for Best Motion Picture for a Musical or Comedy.

As the world already knows, Jennifer Lawrence and Amy Schumer are best friends, and according to E! News, Jennifer Lawrence announced that they plan on wearing the same gown to the Golden Globes.

“We’re going to try to figure out to wear the exact same thing. That’s my mission. I really want us to wear the same thing.”

That’s right! Jennifer Lawrence and Amy Schumer are going to dress alike, and regardless of who wins, they are not going to let it ruin their friendship.

Let’s take a look at her competition for Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture for a Comedy or Musical. Amy Schumer is a nominee for her dramatic yet funny performance in Trainwreck. Not only did she star in the movie, she wrote it. This is Amy’s first Golden Globe nomination. Will she beat out BFF Jennifer Lawrence and take the crown? Time will tell!

Another top contender in the same category as Jennifer Lawrence is Melissa McCarthy. Known for her performance in Bridesmaids and The Heat, her recent performance in Spy is sending her to the Golden Globes this year.

The competition doesn’t end with McCarthy. Jennifer Lawrence will also have to beat out Lily Tomlin. Tomlin has been nominated for he “Tour-De-Force performance” in Grandma. Not only was Lily Tomlin absolutely hilarious, she played the coolest grandma ever.

Last, but absolutely not least, Maggie Smith is also fighting against Jennifer Lawrence for that Golden Globe Award. Smith was nominated for her humorous performance as a homeless woman in Nicholas Hytner’s movie The Lady in the Van.

Many predictions are being made, but who do you think will win this year’s Golden Globe Award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Musical or Comedy? TV Executive Editor Debra Birnbaum and Co-Awards Editor Kristopher Tapley of Variety said that they believe Amy Schumer will take the win over Maggie Smith and Jennifer Lawrence for Best Performance by an Actress for a Comedy or Musical.

“Jennifer Lawrence makes sense for a group that historically adores stars and might want a prestige sheen in this category, and Maggie Smith is a lurker in a British production. But let’s go out on a limb and call it for 2015 ‘it’ girl Amy Schumer for ‘Trainwreck.'”

Stephanie Merry and Emily Yahr announced their predictions on the Washington Post, and they don’t think that Jennifer Lawrence will take the win, either.

“2015 was the year of Schumer, and the Hollywood Foreign Press will probably acknowledge that by giving the comedian the award. After all, she didn’t just act in the edgy romantic comedy — she also wrote it.”

Although Merry and Yahr believe that Schumer will win, they think that Lily Tomlin should win for her role in Grandma.

They also made a statement about Jennifer Lawrence.

“Since Jennifer Lawrence’s roles in David O. Russell’s movies are always awards worthy, why should her star turn in ‘Joy’ be any different? Well, because ‘Joy’ wasn’t really that great of a movie. At least Lawrence makes the most of her lines.”

So, Jennifer Lawrence really isn’t in favor to win the Golden Globe Award, but who knows? Surprises do happen!
