Brooklyn Rae Silzer Bids Farewell To ‘General Hospital’ As Emma Scorpio Drake, At Least For Now

Thursday’s episode of General Hospital was an emotional one, as Robin and Patrick tied the knot and headed out of Port Charles with Emma to start a new life in California. While Kimberly McCullough has been in-and-out of Port Charles for a while now, and fans have known for a bit that Jason Thompson was leaving, many GH viewers hoped that the show would find a way to keep Brooklyn Rae Silzer, who plays Emma, around town.

Unfortunately, Silzer’s time on General Hospital has come to an end for now, as well. Early buzz had indicated Emma would stay in Port Charles with her grandmother Anna, but the young girl is staying with her mom and dad as they head to California. It’s a happy ending for “Scrubs” fans, but a heartbreaking set of departures.

Soap Opera Digest shares some words from Brooklyn regarding her exit, and the good news is that Emma likely will return to Port Charles periodically for visits. As most GH fans know, Thompson is headed over to The Young and the Restless and he will soon be taking over the role of Billy Abbott from Burgess Jenkins. McCullough’s return came together to send Drake off with a proper farewell.

Silzer says, “I am very sad about her moving but I understand that this was the best way to write our story since Jason was leaving.”

The actress says she would love to return to the show, teasing, “My Grandma Anna has a huge house now and she might be lonely and need to see Emma! We could have super-long sleepovers!”

While it would have been hard to picture an appropriate storyline that tore Emma from both her mother and father, considering all she has gone through, viewers will definitely miss this pint-sized actress. She has grown extremely close to both Thompson and McCullough over the years and Jason, in particular, was quite emotional in saying goodbye to her.

Thompson, McCullough and Silzer turned in some fantastic scenes during this exit storyline and the three all tend to gush about working with one another. As Soap Shows details, Silzer credits Thompson for always believing in her and teaching her to be a better actor. For his part, Thompson calls the time he had working with Silzer a cherished gift and he notes it was an amazing opportunity to work with her.

What will Silzer be doing next? While clearly the door is definitely open for Emma to return to General Hospital now and then, she does have other projects on her plate. It would appear that she will be on the new CBS show Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders this spring for at least one episode. Some of Silzer’s fans may remember that she had previously appeared on both CSI: NY and CSI: Miami as the character of Lucy Messer.

Brooklyn also has a project titled The Storyteller currently in pre-production, details her IMDb page. Interestingly, that project also stars Constance Towers, who played Helena Cassadine, and Kristina Wagner, who played Felicia Jones Scorpio, on General Hospital. That project would seem to have Silzer in a sizable role and fans can’t wait to check it out.

Did General Hospital make the right call in writing a storyline that sent Patrick, Robin and Emma off to California together given Jason Thompson’s decision to leave? Will you be rooting for Brooklyn Rae Silzer to find a way back to Port Charles, or will you be anxious for her to head off to other, bigger projects?
