Lamar Odom has been known for many accomplishments in his career as an NBA player. Once famed as a superstar athlete as well as his celebrity role as husband to reality TV star Khloe Kardashian, Lamar later fell into the world of substance abuse. After struggling with the marriage amid his addiction as well as reports of cheating, Khloe eventually filed for divorce from Odom.
But before that divorce was finalized, she learned that Lamar was lying unconscious in a brothel after an alleged drug overdose. Khloe rushed to be with Odom and has remained supportive throughout his long hospital stay. The brain damage that Lamar sustained has been devastating, resulting in problems for Odom in walking, talking, and even remembering his own name has been challenging, as the Inquisitr reported.
Now, looking back on the first hours of his coma to how far he has progressed, however, the 31-year-old star of Keeping Up with the Kardashians summarized her unique perspective on how Lamar is doing, reported ABC News.
The update on Odom came during a promotional stint for her new TV show, Kocktails with Khloe, at the Television Critics Association winter press tour. The show premieres January 20 on the FYI network.
Asked to describe how she feels Odom is progressing since he was discovered in what is described as “near death” following his drug overdose at the Nevada brothel, Khloe sought to provide a general overview without offering too many details.
“[Lamar’s] doing amazing and I’m so proud of the strength that he has to fight this battle. Because it’s not my story to tell, I try to respect that, and I want him to be able to tell that story. I’m just there to support and care for him.”
However, when it comes to the question of whether the story of what Odom has gone through might become fodder for her new talk show, the answer was an unequivocal “definitely,” reported the Mirror.
Kardashian’s defense against any controversy about whether she should be offering up her estranged husband as cocktail hour banter is simple: It’s her life to tell.
“It’s such a conversational show and I am kind of bantering with my friends,” she explained. “It does come up, because it’s my life, so if someone is pulling a story from their life it’s so easy for me to throw one back at them.”
Kardashian also clarified that she’s not going to push having the conversation center on Odom, hinting that she can’t predict what could happen on future episodes of her new talk show.
“So far it’s happened that I’ve been very conversational with that, but I’m not going to force it. That’s how it’s been so far,” she added.
As for what the future holds for Lamar in terms of his hospitalization, a source told People that he is headed to a live-in rehab facility in the next few days.
Since first discovered unconscious in that brothel, Odom stayed first in a hospital in Las Vegas before a move to Los Angeles’ Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. That’s where he has remained thus far. However, the next step is to transfer Lamar to a live-in rehabilitation center, said that source.
“The plan is for him to move in the next few days,” revealed the source. “At the center, Lamar will continue to receive amazing therapy. He still has many challenges but is making progress. He is a fighter!”
The extent of the physical damage done to his body continues, however, although he has made progress since the coma that lasted for four days. At that time, both opiates and cocaine were discovered in his body by his physicians. Odom sustained health troubles that include kidney damage as well as both speech and cognitive impairment.
The latest update about Lamar comes as Khloe also worries about her brother Rob Kardashian, as the Inquisitr reported.
Recently diagnosed with diabetes after an alleged 100-pound weight gain, hehas become the subject of concern among family members such as sisters Kourtney Kardashian, who’s become a weight loss expert herself following her split from Scott Disick and flaunting of her revenge body; Khloe, Kim Kardashian, who’s vowed to take off her post-pregnancy pounds in the New Year. And along with momager Kris Jenner, they’re planning on doing an intervention for Rob.
