It’s a big day for Tom Cruise, but it probably won’t be a happy one. The star’s wife of five years filed for divorce last week which means that the actor will probably be spending his 50th birthday without Katie Holmes.
Cruise, who has been in Iceland filming his next movie Oblivion, took a flight back to the United States this morning. According to the Daily Mail, Cruise left Iceland at around 2 in the morning today and is flying back to his mansion in California.
According to a source, Cruise’s 50th birthday turned into a big argument for the couple. Holmes insisted that Cruise came home to celebrate with the family but the actor wanted to have everyone come out to the set. The incident was reportedly the “final straw” and happened just days before Holmes filed for divorce.
Cruise’s personal life is in a bit of a rough patch right now but he can still reflect on an extremely successful career.
Cruise got into the acting business in 1981 when he played Billy in the movie Endless Love. Since then, he’s starred in classic movies like The Outsiders, Risky Business, and the Color of Money.
He’s won three Golden Globes (has been nominated for four more) and was nominated for three Academy Awards for Born On The Fourth Of July, Magnolias, and Jerry Maguire. He has starred in countless blockbuster hits, worked with famous directors like Spielberg, Kubrick, Scorsese, and Stone, acted opposite stars like Jack Nicholson, Paul Newman, and Dustin Hoffman, and last month he became just the fourth person to be awarded the Entertainment Icon Award.
“I love my job, and I feel very privileged to be able to do it. It has been a dream of mine, and I love what I do,”
In 2005, Tom Cruise was awarded the Stanley Kubrick Britannia Award For Excellence in Film. Here’s a look back at the Mission Impossible stars career in film.
