WWE News: Issues With The Undertaker And Kane’s Recent Match?

The Undertaker and Kane’s recent match at Survivor Series against The Wyatt Family reportedly led to several issues backstage as officials thought the feud “felt flat,” per Daily Wrestling News.

After losing to Brock Lesnar in a Hell in a Cell match — a match that won a Slammy award for Match of the Year — the Wyatt Family abducted the Undertaker, taking him out of the arena. The next night on Monday Night RAW, the Wyatt’s did the same thing, assaulting Undertaker’s storyline half-brother Kane and taking him away, too.

Several weeks into the feud, there was a bevy of speculation as to what the match between the Wyatt’s and the Brothers of Destruction would be. Daily Wrestling News’ report mentions that at one point, it was discussed that current NXT World Heavyweight Champion Finn Balor would team up with the Brothers of Destruction for a multi-man tag team match.

The Inquisitr reported on that rumor at the time, as Balor himself teased getting involved in the match during an NXT panel in London.

However, Balor did not make his main roster debut and the WWE decided to have a traditional tag team match at Survivor Series. The Undertaker and Kane ended up facing the patriarch of the Wyatt Family, Bray Wyatt and Luke Harper.

Leading up to the bout, it was mostly Bray Wyatt’s work on the microphone keeping the feud alive as both the Undertaker and Kane were “recovering” from their injuries. However, two weeks before the event, the Brothers of Destruction returned on RAW, setting up the aforementioned tag team match.

The reason for the company going with that match was “largely due to indecisiveness as they went back and forth on ideas for a while,” Daily Wrestling News reports.

WWE officials reportedly felt that the feud “felt flat” and did not want to use Balor in that circumstance. If that was the actual case, there may be some credence to those beliefs as the Undertaker and Kane’s victory became a mere footnote as the brothers have not been seen on WWE television since.

The report concludes by stating that there have been discussions about coming up with a better plan for the Undertaker during his next stint on WWE television. Despite the loss to Brock Lesnar at Wrestlemania 30 that ended his undefeated streak at Wrestlemania, “The Deadman” is still a fixture of the event and figures to have a prominent role on the show.

There have been reports of a possible Undertaker vs. John Cena match at the event. Unlike most years, this year’s Wrestlemania plans are slow to develop and will become more clear closer to the event.

As for the Wyatt Family, entered a feud with a slew of ECW originals after suffering the loss to the Brothers of Destruction. Those ECW originals included The Dudley Boyz (Bubba Ray and Devon), Tommy Dreamer, and Rhyno. After several hardcore matches, the Wyatt Family was successful in fending off the extreme crusaders.

In a recent interview with Chad Dukes of the Chad Dukes Wrestling Show, Wyatt Family Luke Harper teased big things for himself and the bearded stable, saying that thoughts of winning championships are on their mind.

“We’ve dominated lots of people, we’ve beat up lots of people, we’ve sent a lot of messages, we’ve been successful, but there’s another level of success that we have yet to attain and that we want to attain.”
