NRA Reacts To Obama’s Heartfelt Speech On Gun Violence

The NRA reacts as Obama gave a heartfelt speech on gun violence and mass shootings in America. From Newtown, Virginia Tech, and even all the way back to unprecedented attack at Columbine–Obama spoke emotionally on this issue.

The president shed tears as he laid down executive orders for tighter gun laws, as covered by CNN and other major news outlets. But the NRA reacts in opposition, as usual.

The Potus gives his speech after being introduced by Mark Barden, a father who lost his son during the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting. “Every time I think about those kids, it gets me mad,” Obama said as he wiped away tears.

Obama even challenged congress and the NRA to join him in this effort to make America safer. This has always been a struggle for the Obama administration because simply hinting at the notion is usually immediately shot down, The Inquisitr reports.

The NRA reacts by live tweeting their discontent for the newly imposed laws.

And will not relent in fighting for their beliefs.

In fact, if a GOP candidate is elected in 2016, they will have the power to veto Obama’s executive orders–therefore, his efforts would be for naught.

The National Rifle Association (NRA), in particular rejects Obama’s decisions and are calling it a plot to take everyone’s guns away, even though Obama implicitly said that it is not.

The GOP and the NRA have controversially criticized Obama on politicizing this issue claiming that he’s guilty of using victims affected by the shootings to help his efforts. “In some cases they have used victims as props, which disappoints me,” said Senator Rand Paul, CNN reports.

Obama has always responded by noting that such issues are larger than the polar bipartisan split on gun rights and that such issues should be criticized in order to make citizens safer.

Obama responded with the following.

“Are they serious? Do we really think that thousands of families whose lives have been shattered by gun violence don’t have a right to weight in on this issue? Do we think that their emotions, their loss, is not relevant to this debate?”

Obama says this with Sandy Hook victims backing him and house representative and gun violence Gabby Giffords standing next to him.

Nevertheless, the NRA still reacts with snark comments, statistics, and anecdotal stories of gun heroism to patronize the POTUS of his decision.

The NRA also implies that they were already years ahead of Obama in terms of gun safety during their live twitter reaction.

Buzzfeed News tweeted an image from official NRA statement reacting to the speech captured by, The Week.

“The American people do not need more emotional, condescending lectures that are completely devoid of facts. The men and women of the National Rifle Association take a back seat to no one when it comes to keeping our communities safe. But the fact is that President Obama’s proposals would not have prevented any of the horrific events he mentioned. The timing of this announcement, in the eighth and final year of his presidency, demonstrates not only political exploitation but a fundamental lack of seriousness.”
