Ricky Gervais Keeping In Shape For Golden Globes And Beefing Up Security Back Home

British comedian Ricky Gervais was seen out and about recently, jogging through the streets of London with a great big smile on his face. It seems the funny guy is getting in shape for his upcoming appearance at the Golden Globes ceremony.

The Inquisitr recently reported that Gervais, with his typical humor, has apologized in advance for anything untoward he might say during the ceremony.

Tom Hanks was heard to say at a previous Golden Globes: “We recall when Ricky Gervais was a slightly chubby but very kind comedian,” after which his Toy Story 3 co-star Tim Allen reportedly added, “Neither of which he is now.”

According to Entertainment Weekly, it seems Gervais merely wants to warn people that he can see the future and predictably wrote on Twitter: “I was drunk & didn’t give a f**k.”

Besides the obvious dodgy jokes he is likely to come out with at the Golden Globe Awards, however, it seems Ricky is serious about looking good on the stage.

The 54-year-old comedian was seen in the streets of London wearing a black and red tracksuit, sporty-looking black trainers and a New York cap pulled down over his brow. The Daily Mail published a series of images of Ricky Gervais, jogging with his personal trainer and sporting a great big, friendly trademark grin.

As a matter of interest, Gervais was also caught on video jogging in that area quite a while ago.

It’s been four years since Ricky hit the stage for the Golden Globes, and he will be taking over the reins from Tina Fey and Amy Poehler who have hosted the awards ceremony since 2013. It seems he is really looking forward to it.

In the meantime, it seems Britain’s austerity cuts to the police force in London and England in general have hit Ricky Gervais and several other celebrities, including singer George Michael and singer/songwriter Liam Gallagher.

Due to the increase in crime in their super-posh neighborhood of Britain’s capital, they are setting up their own security force. Ricky probably wants to be sure his luxury home is safe during his trip to Los Angeles for the Golden Globe Awards.

Reportedly the super-rich residents of the suburb of Hampstead, north London have got together £210,000 (around $309,000) to crowdfund their own private police force after a series of violence-related crimes in the area.

As reported by the Sun, after the police station in the area was sold back in 2013, things seemed to be getting worse, with more burglaries and home invasions happening all the time. In an effort to convince the local police to bring back security patrols in the area where Ricky Gervais and many other well off locals live, each resident involved in the crowd funding is paying around £3,000 ($4,400) a year. This will finance one sergeant at £40,000 ($59,000) a year and two constables at £25,000 ($37,000) a year, along with all the necessary equipment and transport.

By doing this, they hope to encourage the Metropolitan police in London to place another three officers in the area, giving a total of six police officers patrolling the streets. There will be a condition on the plan, however, in that the extra officers hired will only be allowed to police the upmarket suburb where Ricky Gervais and Co. live, and cannot be drafted for any major events elsewhere in London.

Reportedly those who thought up the scheme say that should all residents of the area support the plan, it would cost each resident a mere £13 ($19) a year. Reportedly the Metropolitan police have confirmed to the media that the plan is a feasible one.

Meanwhile no doubt we all wait with baited breath to see what Ricky Gervais will come out with, as he hits the stage looking trim and fit at the Golden Globes on Sunday.
