Elderly Woman Attacked For Protecting Geese From Kid, Sustains Life-Threatening Injuries

grandma protecting geese attacked golden gate park

An elderly woman, who has not been named in the media, has suffered life-threatening injuries after a bizarre fracas between the victim and the father of a young boy in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park.

The story of the goose-loving grandma and overprotective dad begins as many nowadays do — and the angle is vastly different depending on how you look at the story. Firstly, only one account is known, as the woman’s assailant is, as of now, unknown — and the only witnesses to the attack appear to be the young boy, his father and the old woman.

But the little boy annoying the geese and the subsequent events that landed an old lady in the hospital with injuries that could well kill her could have gone down in several different ways. How often is it that you see a child misbehaving in public, sometimes terribly and dangerously, with nary a parent or caregiver in sight to set the tot straight — or a parent or caregiver buried in a smartphone, playing Words With Friends while the child in their charge runs riot in Starbucks?

And then again, how often have you been out in public with your kid when some busybody steps in and tells you how to raise your kid? Or worse, have you ever had a stranger in public touch your child, even benignly, to up a pacifier in his mouth or pick up a dropped bottle with God knows what on their hands?

So what happened here?

The woman, 82, reported seeing a child harming the geese in the park. And, as she tells police, she confronted the 5-year-old-ish boy about mistreating the animals. The kid’s dad appeared, and some sort of disagreement ensued — during which time, the old lady was knocked to the ground, at which time she became injured.

The kid’s father then walked her to the car, where she met up with her husband. On the drive home, she began to feel progressively worse, and wound up in the hospital. But other than that, little is known about who was involved or what happened between the lady, the kid, the dad and the geese.

Police are similarly mystified, and Golden Gate Park boathouse employee John Steele explained to SF Gate:

“It kind of puzzles me about what really happened,” he said. “Nobody really saw it. I don’t think there were any other witnesses but the guy, his kid and the lady.”

Authorities hope to speak with the father of the boy so as better to determine what occurred.

I wish you people would learn to write a real story. Stop embellishing the story and just tell it as it should be. Stop being paparazzi and feeling the need to over dramatize everything!

Addition: This story only supports the reason that I never click on your links. The one in one hundred that I do…this is what I get. I'm done.

This story is the reason for me to get a law degree. I'd represent that women for free.

This is the second and last time I will read anything 'published' by the Inquisitor….they are unbelievable! I especially like the part about a stranger picking up a pacifier or bottle with only god knows what on their hands…well, if most of todays so called parents weren't too busy playing with their gadgets, they would bend over themselves and pick them up. You should start writing for the National Enquirer…the stories have so much in common! Nothing.

Free speech is the only reason these people have jobs. They should be ashamed for the 'stories' they 'publish'. Thank you Eswn and Jason for backing me on this one!

WELL…it is "QUITE OBVIOUS"…the GEESE were not the ABUSERS! DUH…the lady is 82 years old and ended up in the Hospital! REAL TOUGH to figure out who HURT THIS WOMAN! Come on…are the police really that stupid!

I'll take it to a little bit of an extreme and see who agrees with me…..In My Opinion….The Paparazzi killed Princess Diana and Michael Jackson. I believe, if not for the paparazzi and us human's need for drama, BOTH of these amazing people would be alive today! Agree or Disagree?

first of all no one really knows what happened so they should have waited to publish till they had real facts and second I'm a mother of 3 and when I had my last child I also had 14 month old and a 2 year old and with 3 kids sometimes it hard to keep track of all the lil things they drop a good parent would go wash the battle or nuby and then give it to their child that's what I always did when a stranger helped me out…..don't judge some one unless you know their story to.

I've yelled at kids at the park for throwing bottles into the lake at the geese! I was outraged at the fact that his presents were watching him but as soon as I said something to him the dad told the kid to stop, so I'm glad. But the dad from this story is just a total knucklehead and I Hope he gets served.

Most serial killers start out as animal abusers; being an animal lover myself I would've chased the child squawking haha. I hope she gets well soon and as for the dad and his son I hope they get chased by geese in hell lol… P.S. who cares if the kid is 5 or 12, animal abuse is against the law & his dad should have been watching him better if he didn't want someone else to be responsible for his son- next time maybe he will get kidnapped by someone who will teach him some manners.
