WWE News: WWE Planning Another Major ‘WWE RAW’ Tonight, John Cena In Huge Role?

Monday Night RAW is set to take place tonight, and WWE officials have some work to do. After the mixed response from Vince McMahon getting arrested last week, plans surround Roman Reigns taking on Sheamus for the WWE World Heavyweight championship with Vince McMahon as the special guest referee. The reason for the mixed response was due to the supposed lack of originality with the storyline. Also, Reigns wasn’t used heavily, as most fans thought he’d be.

That brings up an interesting conversation because when Seth Rollins was WWE champion, he appeared in at least four segments on WWE RAW each night. Some even thought he was used too much and his status was becoming saturated. The WWE champion is supposed to be a draw that’s a special attraction. That’s not to insinuate he shouldn’t be used at all, but there’s a line not to cross.

Last week, Reigns was used in two segments. When McMahon got arrested, he had a few lines, but McMahon carried the entire segment. At the end of the night, Reigns came out to attack the League of Nations when Alberto Del Rio and John Cena finished their match. No words were spoken, just actions, which is how Reigns should be dealt with until he improves his mic skills.

All of that is leading to tonight’s big main event, to which most of the WWE fans know the ending result. Reigns should walk out of RAW as the WWE champion.

“What’s key to that, is Mr McMahon will be the special referee. The Chairman has traditionally been a ratings draw, and is very effective in the heel authority role. By stacking the deck against Reigns, and basically rebooting the old Austin / McMahon storyline, WWE are hoping that fans will get on board with the champion.”

What Culture‘s reporter makes a good point about McMahon being heavily-involved in the storyline. He hasn’t been a mainstay on WWE programming since the CM Punk angle in 2013. One night in October, Punk and McMahon were scheduled for a match. Since then, McMahon was making sure the company was succeeding on the back-end. Triple H took over as the authority figure on TV.

Despite all of their attempts to make it interesting again, something is still missing about Roman Reigns’ character. At WWE TLC, he showed a side that the fans never thought was possible when he left the Shield. He destroyed everything at ringside, speared Triple H multiple times, and had great mannerisms of a man who just wanted to fight. At the end of it all, Reigns should’ve turned heel.

Jim Ross talked about the possibility of that taking place on his blog, JrsBBQ.com.

“Even though I’m not predicting it, Reigns suddenly aligning himself with The Authority would be a massive shocker and cast an entire new, long lasting light on the WWE Champion who needs to adopt the ‘Dirty Harry’ philosophy of speaking less and not more.”

Ross is absolutely right. Just like how Reigns won the WWE championship on RAW a few weeks ago, something else needs to happen to spice things up.

At the Royal Rumble, a heel turn that will align him and Triple H against Vince McMahon is an easy idea. If officials want to go with Reigns vs. Cena at WrestleMania 32, then McMahon can back his man, Cena. It could truly be a passing of the torch. After all, the WWE would never turn Cena heel. So, there’s only one other option for that to work.
