Harry Styles is set to leave a huge One Direction-shaped hole in the music business. Styles and his bandmates Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan, and Liam Payne will soon be heading off for a well-earned rest. Harry and One Direction have barely had time to draw breath since placing third on the 2010 season of The X Factor, and once the music industry awards season is over, the boys will be putting their feet up for a while. Once that break begins, Harry will have some time to focus on solo projects. It seems that whatever comes Styles’ way, he still has a huge career in music to look forward to.
Since One Direction announced their hiatus, rumors have been rife about what Harry and his mates will get up to while they are apart. It has been widely rumored that Harry may be about to get involved in the movies, but no firm plans have been made public to date. Over the past week or so, three major pieces of news have emerged that indicate Harry still has music on his mind.
Firstly, the Telegraph reports that Harry has listed four new songs on ASCAP. As previously reported in Inquisitr, Harry’s new songs are called “Already Home,” “Coco,” “Endlessly,” and “5,378 Miles.” Styles shares co-writing credits for the songs with Snow Patrol guitarist John McDaid and dance songwriter/producer Gary Go. Harry is listed as the only performer, suggesting that the tracks could well be destined for a Harry Styles solo album.
According to NME, Harry recently denied that he had recorded any solo material. When interviewed on Alan Carr’s Chatty Man, Harry admitted that he had been writing but denied that he had written a solo album.
“No… we all write kind of separately and for other people and do stuff and bring it back, and that is it.”
It seems that Harry may have changed his mind about that already. Also of interest in recent days has been Harry’s Caribbean vacation. While many news outlets, including the Daily Mail, have focused on whether or not Styles is dating Kendall Jenner, they seem to have missed what could potentially be the real story behind Harry’s trip. The fact is that Harry and his family are sharing a super yacht with Irving Azoff and his family.
Azoff is a music industry big-hitter who represents the interests of megastars like Bon Jovi, The Eagles, and Fleetwood Mac. It is believed that Styles has been friendly with Azoff for some time now, but many One Direction fans hope that Harry and the band will sign with Azoff when their current contracts with Simon Cowell’s Syco and Modest Management expire. Azoff is known to be a fierce advocate for his acts and may just be the man to guide Styles on the next steps in his career.
It is widely believed that Styles has the voice, looks, charisma, and personality to be a huge success as a solo recording artist. Anyone with an interest in music will recognize that making the change from boy band member to solo star is far from easy. Many have tried and failed, but Harry could be set to follow in the footsteps of the likes of Justin Timberlake and Robbie Williams, both of whom carved out huge solo careers.
It seems that Jay-Z agrees. The rapper, producer, and founder of the Tidal streaming service says that he can turn Harry into not just a success but into the world’s biggest artist.
Jay-Z told the Daily Star On Sunday that Harry is already a huge name but will need help in making the transition from band member to solo star.
“Harry doesn’t need any help with exposure, everybody in the world knows who he is. But he does need to make the transition from being part of a group to becoming an individual artist.
“I can get him working with the bigger artists, the biggest producers – and have him as the biggest artist in the world within a year.”
If Harry were to get involved with Jay-Z, he would be joining a stable that already includes some of the world’s biggest names, including Rihanna, Kanye West, Shakira, and Emeli Sandé. While Jay-Z undoubtedly has the credentials to make Styles a huge solo artist, some of Harry’s fans will wonder if the rapper is the best fit for Styles.
