Katie Holmes Faces The Challenges And Rewards Of Directing ‘All We Had’

Katie Holmes has been busy on the set of All We Had, taking on roles in front of the camera and behind the scenes, which may explain why fans haven’t heard much from her in recent weeks. Taking a breather from her duties as actress and director, Holmes reveals that she’s found the experience to be more difficult than she expected, but she also says that it’s been equally educational.

The film All We Had, which is based on the first time novel by Annie Weatherwax, is a huge undertaking for Holmes, because it casts her in the film’s leading role, as well as placing her in the director’s chair. It can probably be assumed that this is an especially tense situation for Holmes, considering this is her first time as a director. It may be a particularly difficult task to undertake, while also having to star in the film, but Katie seems to be doing an impressive job. Modest, almost to a fault, Ms. Holmes says she can’t take all of the credit herself.

“I was actually on both sides [of the camera],” Katie said of her All We Had duties. “It was an undertaking, but the movie was produced by Jane Rosenthal and you couldn’t ask for a better producer, so I felt very taken care of.”

Ms. Holmes added that she found the experience much more challenging than she had anticipated, but she also said it was “very, very rewarding” in the end. Katie also said she was hoping that she would get better with more opportunities, implying that we may see her back in the director’s chair before too long.

All We Had is a drama about struggling through financial hard times and trying to improve one’s life. Rita Carmichael (Holmes) and her daughter Ruthie (Stefania Owen) run out of money in a town called Fat River, where Rita finds work as a waitress in a small diner.

Will Rita and Ruthie be able to make a go of it on the income of a waitress? Or will they find themselves struggling on the streets of Fat River?

All We Had, which was adapted for the screen by Josh Boone, was filmed on location in the lower Hudson Valley area.

Katie was spotted out on a dinner outing with daughter, Suri Cruise, and a very special guest. Joining them was Annalise Bishop, Jamie Foxx’s daughter. Sources report that Holmes seemed very motherly toward Annalise, as the trio enjoyed a casual outing. The two girls sat on either side of Ms. Holmes, as they enjoyed their meals and ducked out 30 minutes later.

“It was all fairly normal — just a mom out with her daughter and her friend grabbing a quick bite,” a source reported.

Although rumors suggest that the suspected relationship between Holmes and Foxx is possibly Hollywood’s worst kept secret, the duo still deny that they are anything more than friends. Spurring further gossip, Katie participated in a surprise birthday party for 48-year-old Jamie, earlier in December.

While insiders all report that the two are head over heels in love, both Holmes and Foxx want to avoid stirring up anymore rumors. Except for very special occasions, they avoid being seen in each other’s company, which also includes trying not to show up at the same parties.

“Katie and Jamie have a fun and playful relationship and have gotten even closer in the past few months,” the source added. “Suri gets along with him super well, too.”

There is no word yet on a release date for All We Had.
