A controversial new dating website, providing a perception that it is open to “whites only,” has posted a billboard in Salt Lake City, Utah, turning heads and sparking conversation among residents asking whether the website WhereWhitePeopleMeet.com is racist or just another dating site following the path of others such as BlackPeopleMeet.com or FarmersOnly.com.
KUTV reported on the billboard that stands tall on State Road 201 and decided to visit the dating site to see why there is a need for a whites-only dating site. The answer was readily displayed on their About Us page.
“I am sure some of you are wondering about the concept and need for a dating website titled ‘Where White People Meet.Com.’ Our answer to that would be why not? There are various dating websites that promote and cater to just about every origin, race, religion and lifestyle out there. So again, why not ‘Where White People Meet.Com’?”
WhereWhitePeopleMeet.com, at the time this article was written, has only 59 members. The dating site has four membership levels. The first is free, allowing individuals to view member profiles and scour the member directory. The advertised $4 level is an all access seven-day trial. For $14.97, users gain access to a monthly all-access subscription. Finally, there is a $69 membership level, which allows six months worth of full access to the site. There is no yearly subscription at this time.
Fox 13 in Salt Lake City reached out to Utah residents to get their opinion on the billboard and wondered if WhereWhitePeopleMeet.com is any different from the other race specific, religion specific, or occupation specific dating sites out there.
Kim Gilbert claimed that it is not the best message for kids to see on a billboard.
“I just don’t think it’s the way to teach our kids to love all when you see billboards like that.”
Kayla Lemmon responded against all racial specific dating websites.
“I have a lot of friends who are biracial couples and they’re in love and they’re happy. I don’t think we should have a dating site with only one race. I think it excludes someone who could be your soul mate and is a different color than you.”
Twitter user @NathanMills reached out to WhereWhitePeopleMeet.com to say, “[T]ell me this is not real.”
WhereWhitePeopleMeet.com replied that the site is very real, stating that it is not a satire site but instead a very real dating website.
Very real indeed! https://t.co/KEvmcIHDNp

Despite the whites only perception of the dating site and its namesake, the owners of WhitePeopleMeet.com claim that they are against discrimination of races and will not allow members to partake in any racist banter of discriminatory discussions. In fact, they state that anyone can join the site as long as they abide by all rules and regulations.
“The question naturally arises, can anyone join? That answer is yes, as long as you are at least 18 years of age and you agree to abide by the rules and regulations set forth for all members to follow. We want our dating forum to be simple and inexpensive with the ability to connect like minded people in a non discriminatory fashion.”
However, in addition to a focus on white people, it appears as though homosexual relationships are not encouraged on the site. If signed up as a woman, an individual can only view male members and vice versa.
Despite claiming that anyone can join and discrimination is not allowed, the website’s official name seems to state otherwise. However, the same may be said for BlackPeopleMeet.com based on their name alone.
What are your thoughts? Is WhereWhitePeopleMeet.com racist, or socially acceptable?
