‘Scandal’ Season 5 Spoilers: What Is Next For Olivia Pope?

Scandal ended the first half of Season 5 with a big moment. Olivia walked away from Fitz and a life at the White House, and she replaced those things with a new couch. That might not seem like a big move to some, but fans of Scandal know that a split for Olivia and Fitz is not a small thing this time. Will it be the end for the pair, though?

Fans will learn what happens next for Olivia and Fitz when the series returns to ABC on February 11. Spoiler TV revealed that the next Scandal episode is titled “It’s Hard Out Here for a General.” There is no synopsis for the episode yet, but the finale leaves a lot of unanswered questions.

Not only did fans see Olivia leave Fitz behind for her new comfy sofa on Christmas, but they saw Jake Ballard rejoin forces with her father. He was seen walking into Papa Pope’s home at the end of the episode.

Will an Olivia and Fitz split lead to a reunion for Jake and Olivia? Not likely. Scott Foley spoke about the potential for a reunion of the pair in a new interview with TV Line.

“I think where Jake found out that Olivia was the one who let Rowan out [of prison]… he had been very patient. He said, ‘You choose Fitz, you love him,’ and she didn’t say, ‘No, I want to choose you.’ He had tried to be the good friend throughout her ridiculous ponderings and questions about ‘Should I marry Fitz?,’ but once he found out that she let Rowan out and Rowan then killed his wife, I think he was done.”

It definitely sounds like Olivia is a single woman on the market without the chance of a reunion with Jake. However, Fitz will not give up on Olivia so easily. Fans will need to definitely keep watching to find out how the split plays out.

Shonda Rhimes has always said that Olivia and Fitz are the endgame for Scandal. When Fitz kicked his wife out and filed for divorce, many fans thought the series was coming to an end. The end of the road was in sight because Olivia and Fitz were together at last.

However, Rhimes, in her true Shondaland style, found a way to pull them apart again. She is the one who killed Derek Shepherd on Grey’s Anatomy after all. Meredith and Derek were the star couple on that series, and many fans always thought that Grey’s Anatomy would end with them together and happy.

Tony Goldwyn talked about the split of Olivia and Fitz in a recent interview with the Hollywood Reporter, and the actor is sure that Olivia will find her way back to Fitz when the series returns for the second half of Scandal Season 5.

“I think there’s hope. I think Fitz and Olivia really love each other. I may be alone at this point in thinking that, I don’t know (Laughs.) But I do, and I think when people love each other as primally as these two people do, I think they can come back from anything.”

However, there is one more piece of news that might destroy Olivia and Fitz for good. She did have an abortion during the episode, and it was Fitz’s baby. He has already lost a son. How would he handle losing another child? Fans reacted strongly to the abortion. It is likely Fitz will have a strong reaction as well.

That is something fans will need to find out when the series returns from its break. Right now, Olivia and Fitz are “done.” That could change when the series returns in February.
