Chip Kelly Possibly Coaching San Francisco 49ers

Chip Kelly has been fired by the Philadelphia Eagles, as reported by ESPN, and one of his next possible destinations in the NFL is the struggling San Francisco 49ers.

When Chip Kelly decided to leave the Oregon Ducks and jump to the NFL, there was a lot of hype. Unfortunately, though, things simply did not work out with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Now that he has been given a release from the Philadelphia Eagles, all eyes are going to be on Chip Kelly to see what his plans are. Kelly already stated that he wants another NFL gig.

Just like every NFL season, there will be several head coaching openings in a couple of weeks. Teams towards the bottom of the standings tend to want to make drastic changes.

One of the most mentioned teams on that list is the San Francisco 49ers, who have yet to officially announce the firing of current head coach Jim Tomsula, a rookie in the NFL ranks.

Even though he inherited a team that lost the likes of Patrick Willis, Michael Crabtree, Frank Gore, Mike Iupati and Justin Smith, Jim Tomsula is still being blamed for the season.

Sensing that they have lost the faith of their fan base, the San Francisco 49ers might be tempted to make a big change at the head coaching position, something that will cause a splash.

San Francisco 49ers owner Jed York and general manager Trent Baalke have a big decision to make about Jim Tomsula after he coaches the team against the St. Louis Rams on Sunday.

If they decide to let Jim Tomsula go, Jed York and Trent Baalke might opt to look for a big name head coach instead of going with a relative unknown like they did with Tomsula.

Though he failed to deliver a Super Bowl win to the Philadelphia Eagles, Chip Kelly is still considered a big name coach. His work with the Oregon Ducks cannot be dismissed easily.

After everything that we saw with the Philadelphia Eagles, Chip Kelly would surely be an interesting fit with the San Francisco 49ers. The media would be providing even more coverage.

For starters, people are going to be curious to see how Chip Kelly and Trent Baalke get along. Baalke failed to get along with Jim Harbaugh, and Kelly is just as stubborn as Harbaugh.

People are also going to want to see how Chip Kelly handles Carlos Hyde, a powerful rusher like DeMarco Murray, whom Kelly could not figure out how to use properly this season.

Chip Kelly prefers to run a horizontal rushing attack. Much like DeMarco Murray, Carlos Hyde thrives in a vertical power rushing attack. Hyde was very effective before his injury.

Colin Kaepernick has been a big story all year long because he regressed as a quarterback. Much of that is being blamed on offensive coordinator Geep Chryst for not being creative.

One of the excuses being made for Chip Kelly is that he never really had a franchise quarterback with the Philadelphia Eagles. Colin Kaepernick has shown that much potential before.

Chip Kelly’s offensive scheme requires a wide receiver that can stretch the field like DeSean Jackson. The San Francisco 49ers already have a very speedy Torrey Smith on the roster.

The underrated Anquan Boldin can make all those tough underneath routes that Chip Kelly likes. Plus, he is one of the best in the NFL at breaking tackles and gaining extra yards.

Defensively, Chip Kelly would need to bring in a coordinator that generates more faith than Bill Davis, who might do okay with the San Francisco 49ers because of all the talent there.
