Bethel, Alaska — A remote town is about to get a free taco party courtesy of Taco Bell, but before you get all jealous, the town is Bethel, Alaska.

Us mainlanders may take Taco Bell (and KFC, and other major chains) for granted, but while Bethel has less traffic and congestion, they also don’t have a Taco Bell. Like, anywhere nearby. Like, if you look at Google Maps, and try to find the closest Taco Bell, Google is all, “duuuuuuude. I don’t even know what you’re talking about. Taco who?”

Yes, Alaska is a whole entire Canada away from the rest of America and its beloved chains, and while the town isn’t getting their own Taco Bell just yet, they will be the recipients of a conciliatory massive taco party after a “cruel hoax” left taco-craving residents bereft.

The hoax (which wasn’t even the first of its kind, pranksters pulled similar shenanigans on New Yorkers loyal to In-N-Out Burger on April Fool’s Day, hoodwinking bloggers and press alike) stemmed from a feud between two people from Bethel, but much of the town was tricked into thinking that a Taco Bell was finally imminent for the residents of far-flung Alaska.

Bethel’s townspeople were massively disappointed, however, and Taco Bell decided to step in and let them have a taste of taco for at least one day, on the house. Well, the igloo.

Taco Bell confirms that it’s shipping up “950 pounds of seasoned beef, 300 pounds of lettuce, 150 pounds of cheddar cheese, 500 pounds of reduced fat sour cream and 300 pounds of tomatoes,” reports the AP.

CEO Greg Creed explains of the free taco party courtesy of Taco Bell:

“If we can feed people in Afghanistan and Iraq, we can feed people in Bethel.”

Taco Bell big-wigs have not disclosed a price tag for the taco party.
