Charlie Sheen’s ‘Anger Management’ Sets Cable Comedy Record

Did you watch Charlie Sheen’s new show, Anger Management, last night on FX? If you did, you were one of 5.74 million viewers. Sheen’s new show was the most-watched scripted comedy broadcast in cable history.

The Hollywood Reporter notes that “Anger Management” was the most-watched scripted comedy show in both total viewers, and in the valuable 18-49 demographic. The two episode, hour-long premiere averaged 5.47 million viewers (2.65 million in the 18-49 demographic.) The second episode of the show saw 5.74 million total viewers tune in.

The ongoing media circus surrounding Charlie Sheen definitely helped last night’s ratings and it’s uncertain if Anger Management will be able to continue its record-breaking ratings. FX has already agreed to renew the show for 90 episodes if Anger Management can hit a certain ratings mark.

Of course, to do that the show will have to actually be good. So far, reviews for Sheen’s new show have been mixed.

TV Fanatic writes:

“This will not be a very long review. I don’t have much to say about Anger Management except this: I didn’t laugh once. I cringed far more than I smiled, suffering through back-to-back episodes of painful jokes and obvious set-ups.”

Screenrant writes that Sheen’s persona should carry the show and bring a good audience to FX.

“Though perhaps not falling within everyone’s tastes, there’s little doubt that Sheen’s Anger Management will be a success. Based on curiosity alone, Sheen should have no problem hitting that contractual ratings average.”
