Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes Divorcing

Well, they lasted longer than anyone ever expected them to. After five years of wedded bliss, and rumors that Tom Cruise was brainwashing Katie Holmes and locking her up in a tower somewhere, the pair has decided to divorce.

According to People magazine, Holmes’ lawyer Jonathan Wolfe has said little on the couple’s decision to divorce, simply stating, “This is a personal and private matter for Katie and her family,” adding that, “Katie’s primary concern remains, as it always has been, her daughter’s best interest.”

This decision to divorce comes right after Cruise’s Rock of Ages film bombed at the box office. As of recent, the pair has been spotted making separate appearances with their daughter, Suri, raising a few eyebrows.

Cruise, 49, and Holmes, 33, got married amongst a media frenzy, and a series of odd press appearances, that saw Cruise professing his love for Holmes while jumping on Oprah’s couch. After a European rendezvous that seemed to come out of nowhere, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes wed in an Italian castle in November of 2006.

This was Holmes’ first marriage, and Cruise’s third. He was previously married to Nicole Kidman, who he shares two children with, Connor, and Isabella. Before then he was married to Mimi Rogers, who he married in 1987 and divorced in 1990.

Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes share daughter Suri, 6. It is not yet said who will file for divorce first, or if there was a prenuptial agreement involved in the marriage, but it is confirmed that the couple has decided to split and will divorce.

Are you surprised by the split of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes? Did you expect this couple to split sooner or to last for a long time?
