Lady Gaga had a powerful year in 2015. After suffering from near public meltdowns, Lady Gaga let the world know the stress of fame was becoming too much for her. She stepped back, spent time with Tony Bennett, and essentially reinvented herself. She left much of the negativity that was beginning to follow her public persona behind and blew everyone away. From her rendition of “The Sound of Music” to earning a Golden Globe nomination (and possible Emmy nomination in 2016) for her role on American Horror Story, Lady Gaga has had a successfully empowering year.

Here are some of our favorite Lady Gaga moments from 2015.

Lady Gaga performed at the Oscars on February 22. She stunned the nation and converted haters to fans (or at least earned their respect) after showcasing her vocal skills. Many may have thought that Lady Gaga was nothing more than a groundbreaking pop star who knew how to push limits. What many didn’t know is that she is actually a classically trained singer. According to Biography, Lady Gaga (born Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta) learned to play piano by 4-years-old, was accepted to Juilliard when she was 11, but went to private Catholic school instead. Lady Gaga attended New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts and spent her early years and young adult life honing in on her musical skills that ranged from classical and pop to performance art. Those who thought Lady Gaga was nothing more than a shock of extravagant outfits including a meat dress were left speechless when they heard the pure beauty of her voice.

For many who had compared Lady Gaga to Madonna, the “Sound of Music” performance silenced the debate once and for all.

Lady Gaga also shocked many when she delivered a rendering and powerful speech that blasted the media industry for the lies it promotes in its message. Speaking at the “Emotions Revolution Session,” she shared her personal dissatisfaction with the music business as a whole and how she felt herself becoming someone she wasn’t.

“I really don’t like selling fragrances. I don’t like wasting my time shaking peoples hands, smiling, doing selfies. It feels shallow. I have a lot more to offer.”

“So what did i do? I started to just say no. I’m not doing that. I’m not taking that picture. I’m not going to that event. That’s not what I stand for. Slowly but surely I remembered who I am.”

You may watch a shortened video of her speech, followed by the hour long discourse in the videos below.

Next would be Lady Gaga’s foray into prime time cable television. Lady Gaga was picked to appear on American Horror Story: Hotel (AHS) and has earned rave reviews. As “The Countess,” Lady Gaga has tapped into a dark side where she is a vampire who is mother to a hideously disfigured creature and has a twisted sense of love and motherhood. She has wreaked havoc on many lives while being the obsession of her dead husband, serial killer John March. Lady Gaga will return to AHS in 2016, and has been nominated for a Golden Globe award.

Many of Lady Gaga’s fans were delighted with the news that Taylor Kinney, Gaga’s boyfriend whom she met while filming the video for “You and I” had proposed. It didn’t take long for social media network to reveal all the juicy details. Exactly what their wedding will be like is a personal matter up to the couple, of course, but that hasn’t slowed down public speculation. According to this article by the Daily Mail, “Tony Bennett will sing ‘Cheek to Cheek'” while the couple marries at her Malibu mansion.

Twitter was abuzz with the news of Lady Gaga’s engagement to Taylor Kinney and everyone wanted to see her engagement ring.

Not only was the ring gorgeous, but many women wanted an engagement ring styled like Lady Gaga’s.
