Why 2015 Was The Year Of Lady Gaga

Billboard Magazine caused quite a stir this year when they named Lady Gaga their Woman Of The Year, but there’s no denying that Gaga has packed a whole lot into the past 12 months.

Back in February, Gaga ended a dry spell of four years to take home her sixth Grammy Award. Joined by legendary crooner Tony Bennett, Lady Gaga took home the prestigious award for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album for her and Bennett’s Cheek To Cheek collaboration album. Prior to her sixth win, Gaga had previously taken home the award for the album The Fame Monster, as well as enjoying wins in the Best Electronic/Dance Album, Best Dance Recording, Best Female Pop Vocal Performance, and Best Short Form Music Video categories.

February was a pretty huge month for Gaga, as she also blew the world away with her tribute to The Sound of Music at the 2015 Academy Awards. Lady Gaga’s performance was so well received, even Julie Andrews, who originally played Maria in the 1965 film, had nothing but praise for the “Bad Romance” singer. “Dear Lady Gaga, thank you for that wonderful tribute. It really warmed my heart,” Julie told Gaga following the performance according to PopSugar. “It’s hard to believe that 50 years have gone by since that joyous film was released. I blinked and then suddenly here I am.”

2015 also saw Lady Gaga make the jump from music to the small screen as she took on her first major TV acting role as The Countess in the Ryan Murphy-produced American Horror Story: Hotel. After receiving rave reviews for her acting chops, her role has also earned her several acting award nominations, including Favorite Sci-Fi/Fantasy TV Actress at the 42nd People’s Choice Awards,
Best Actress in a TV Series – Drama at the upcoming 20th Satellite Awards, and a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress in a Mini-Series or TV Film.

Gaga’s 2015 achievements have also spilled into her private life. In February, Lady Gaga announced that she and boyfriend Taylor Kinney were engaged. “He gave me his heart on Valentine’s Day, and I said YES! [sic]” Lady Gaga wrote on her official Instagram page, alongside a black and white photo of the heart shaped engagement ring.

With so much going Lady Gaga’s way in 2015, it’s no wonder that the star can allegedly make a few diva demands here and there.

According to a new report by TMZ, Gaga had some very specific needs on her personal rider for her recent ArtRave: The Artpop Ball tour, which wrapped in November, 2014, including demands for a room just for her hefty wardrobe. According to the site, Lady Gaga’s rider read that the space must be “completely emptied of all furniture, beds, tables, desks … anything not permanently attached to the walls or floor to be removed” in order to make room for her eccentric outfits.

Amongst other demands, TMZ is also alleging that Gaga’s clothing room must contain four wardrobe racks with 30 hangers, an iron, ironing board, four 6-foot banquet tables decked out in linens, and even a clothing steam cleaner.

Also allegedly a necessity when Lady Gaga comes to town for a show? No dress codes. The site is reporting that should the venue have a specific dress code, Gaga, who is known for her over the top outrageous outfits, be exempt from any clothing regulations. “Please ensure the group is not asked to adhere to any dress code which your hotel might have,” the rider allegedly reads.

Do you think Billboard Magazine was right to name Lady Gaga 2015’s Woman Of The Year?
