Mariah Carey: NYE In Australia, Christmas Royalty, Still Tops The Holiday Charts

For 21 years, Mariah Carey’s hit Christmas ditty “All I Want for Christmas Is You” has found itself atop the charts for top 100 Christmas tunes via Billboard. The song is one that remains in your head and on your lips hours after having a listen. It is almost impossible to sing along with once the catchy melody, Mariah’s beautiful voice, and the identifiable lyrics meet your ear.

Once again, the addictive track has found its way to the top of the Christmas charts, and it’s worth a moment to pay homage to Carey’s brilliance.

The track sold more than 14 million copies and has made an estimated $50 million in royalties. Twenty-one years later, Mariah is still raking in the royalties for the 1994 smash.

The Atlantic relays some info about Carey’s catchy tune and its lyrics.

“Christmas is a time of material and affection-based excess, yet the song is narrowly focused on just one thing: getting to be with a specific person, e.g., you. With infinitely more economy of expression and undoubtedly catchier lyrics. ‘All I Want for Christmas Is You’ is a sort of Hegelian dialectic of Christmastime desire, taking the conflicting notions of abundance and specificity and packaging them neatly into an earworm for the generations.”

One thing is for sure, it certainly gets the feet moving and immediately makes listeners begin thinking about the object of their affection. It’s a wonderful tune that makes the thought of a possible unrequited love catchy and cheerful.

Carey has likely performed this tune countless times over the 21 years since its release. She’s set to put on another star performance on New Years Eve. Mariah is definitely becoming known as the Holiday diva, as Vogue notes.

“Carey has parlayed her yuletide dominance into a booming Christmas conglomerate, including annual television specials, a Hallmark Channel holiday movie, and a string of festive concerts at New York’s Beacon Theatre.”

Carey is all set to perform on December 31 at boyfriend James Packer’s Crown hotel and casino. The diva spoke about her excitement and anticipation for this upcoming event via a Twitter post on Monday.

The video was captioned, “We are absolutely thrilled that @MariahCarey will be joining us to see in the New Year at #CrownMelb #mymoment.”

The Daily Mail shares the details of Mariah’s video.

“While sipping on a hot beverage she said: ‘Hi Melbourne. I’m so excited. I can’t wait for New Year’s Eve. I’m going to be there having a show with you guys – all of us together. I’m super excited. Cannot wait to be on that stage when we count down to the New Year. Happy 2016 on the way. See you soon.'”

The couple will make their way to Australia for the big event after taking some time for themselves on a holiday in Aspen. Carey spoke about her anticipation of a visit to Packer’s homeland, while being able to bring her children along.

‘To be heading over for New Year’s Eve with James and to be able to put on a performance at Crown, it is incredibly exciting. Australia is such a wonderful country and being able to spend some time with James and my family in Melbourne, Sydney and Ellerston makes the trip so special.”

The couple went public with their relationship back in June and have enjoyed an exciting romance thus far. While in Australia, the couple, along with Carey’s 4-year-old twins, Monroe and Moroccan, will stay at Packer’s estate and will be joined by his children from his previous marriage to Erica Packer, Indigo, 7, Jackson, 5, and Emmanuelle, 3.
