Drake Bell, Former ‘Drake And Josh’ Star, Arrested On DUI Suspicion

Drake Bell, the former child actor who starred in Nickledeon’s Drake and Josh from 2004 to 2007, was arrested on Monday on suspicion of driving under the influence, NBC News reports.

Bell, 29, was pulled over by police in Glendale California. According to Glendale police spokesperson, Tahnee Lightfoot, police observed that Bell smelled of alcohol and he also failed a sobriety test. He was arrested, held for 10 hours, and released on the same day on $20,000 bail. According to TMZ, Bell was driving 55mph in a 35mph zone and was stopped by police after stopping abruptly at a red light.

Although he’s famous for starring in Drake and Josh, and for a stint on The Amanda Show with Amanda Bynes from 1999 to 2002, he’s most recently worked as the voice of Spider-Man on the Disney XD animated series, Ultimate Spider-Man. Drake, who is also a musician is also set to go on a concert tour in Mexico early in 2016. The actor got his start on the TV show Home Improvement in 1994. He has also worked on Hulk And Agents of Smash.

This isn’t the first time that Drake Bell has been surrounded by controversy. Earlier this year, he faced a wave of backlash after he made some insensitive remarks about Caitlyn Jenner soon after her Vanity Fair cover was made public. Drake tweeted that he would still be calling Caitlyn Jenner Bruce. Many of Bell’s social media followers called him out for his comments and he was forced to apologize. He deleted the offensive tweet.

Drake Bell also caught some heat last year after he seemingly insulted Ariana Grande, Justin Bieber, and Lady Gaga. In an interview with Buzzfeed, Bell slammed those popular artists, their huge fan-bases and their meteoric rise to stardom.

“I don’t think a lot of these young people have to work very hard,” the former child star said. “They’re found on YouTube and, boom, thrown into the studio so they think they can get anything they want. Ariana Grande is a billionaire before she’s been an artist. You have to work to be able to appreciate what you have, and what work did she ever have to do in her life?”

To many this statement seemed like an insult to Justin Bieber and the way he was discovered. But that wasn’t all Bell had to say.

“I can’t stand that, with a lot of the pop stars, there’s this idea of ‘Are you in our clique? Are you a Directioner or are you a Belieber? Oh, you’re not in our gang? Then you’re not cool and you need to go in a hole and die,'” Bell said.

On a more positive note Drake Bell and his former co-star Josh Peck are set to reunite on an upcoming episode of Grandfathered. Josh Peck is a series regular on the show.

According to Entertainment Tonight, Drake Bell will play Kirk, a flashy tech investor. Gerald (Peck) and Vanessa (Christina Milian) are keen to meet up with him to pitch their new app. But when they finally meet him, they realize that he may not be the type of person they really want to do business with.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Josh Peck reveals that Drake Bell was one of his most sought after guest stars for the show.

“I feel like our next guest star has got to be Drake Bell,” Peck said. “I mean, I would love it and if he was available and into it, nothing would make me happier.”

At the time, Drake’s guest role hadn’t been announced as yet and Josh had some ideas on who his friend and former co-star could play.

“It would be funny if he was like my arch nemesis, or maybe he starts dating Vanessa and I have a meltdown,” Peck said. “Or maybe he works at Jimmy’s restaurant and John starts taking a shine to him and I’m totally threatened by it.”

Grandfathered airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on Fox.
