R Kelly Sick After Surgery, Cancels Appearances Indefinitely

Singer R. Kelly is sick, forcing him to cancel a string of appearances without news on when he will be well enough to reschedule.

R. Kelly is sick for the second time after a throat surgery last year, his publicist has confirmed, which required the singer to cancel an appearance on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon.

But R. Kelly’s sickness also is interfering with the launch of his memoir SoulaCoaster, and the singer has been impeded in promoting the book due to his unfortunately-timed illness. A representative for R. Kelly explained that the crooner’s medical setback stemmed from last year’s surgery, and says that it is unclear when Kelly will be healed enough to resume his book tour:

“While on his way to New York this morning to celebrate the publication of his long-awaited memoir SoulaCoaster, multi-platinum R&B superstar R. Kelly was taken ill and had to return to Chicago for medical treatment.”

The statement on R. Kelly’s sickness continues:

“Initial indications are that he is suffering from complications from surgery he had last year to treat an abscess on his vocal cords… It is unclear how long Kelly may be sidelined. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this has caused.”

Last time R. Kelly was sick, he was out of commission from his summer surgery, which caused him to miss a scheduled appearance at a Jamaica reggae festival. It took the singer several months to recover, and he did not perform again until December of 2011, with a first post-sickness appearance on the X Factor.
