Anna Duggar Praised For Being ‘Strong’ Woman And Good Role Model For Other Wives

Anna Duggar finally admitted that she was aware of everything Josh Duggar did to his younger sisters when he a teenager. However, she married him and had four children with him, anyway. Anna was blindsided by her husband’s second sex scandal, which involved Josh cheating on her (possibly with a porn star). However, she’s staying married to him, anyway.

There are plenty of people out there who think that Anna Duggar is crazy for staying with her troubled husband, but a majority of the Jill & Jessa: Counting On viewers who tweeted about the special are actually praising Anna for being a “strong” woman who other wives should look up to.

During the second episode of TLC’s new three-part series, Anna Duggar revealed that she read the police reports documenting Josh Duggar’s sexual molestation of his sisters, one of whom was 5-years-old at the time the abuse occurred. However, Anna says that there was nothing in the reports that she didn’t already know. She was likely relieved to find that her husband wasn’t hiding anything from her, but, a few weeks later, she discovered that Josh did have a huge secret. Gawker revealed that he was using a paid Ashley Madison account to find women to hook up with, and he was forced to admit to being unfaithful to his wife. A porn star named Danica Dillon later claimed that she and Josh Duggar had extremely violent sex on two different occasions.

In spite of all of this, Anna Duggar is going to stay with Josh. As Us Weekly reports, Anna talked about her decision during Jill & Jessa: Counting On, and she hinted that she would stay married to Josh no matter what he does – she takes her wedding vows that seriously.

“I know there are those that feel I have every right to walk away from this marriage and I respect other people’s views, but in my heart, when I got married, I vowed to God first and then to Joshua for better or for worse, till death do we part,” Anna Duggar said.

Anna went on to say that her faith is what is keeping her invested in her marriage, and she’s relying on God to fix it.

“And God has unfailing love for me and has loved me and forgiven me of so much, and I pray through all this that I would be an extension of God’s love to Joshua and that I would love him and forgive him and that I would wait patiently and allow God to work in our hearts. My prayer and my heart’s desire is for our marriage to be restored.”

Numerous Jill & Jessa: Counting On viewers took to Twitter to respond to Anna’s words, and most of them said that they think Anna Duggar’s decision to stay with Josh is an admirable one. Many labeled Anna a “strong” woman and said that she makes a great role model for other women.

However, others aren’t convinced that Anna is staying with Josh because she’s strong or brave. In a viral Facebook post, Jessica Krammes Kirkland pointed out that Anna Duggar might not feel like she has any other choice because of her strict patriarchal Christian upbringing.

“Anna Duggar was crippled by her parents by receiving no education, having no work experience (or life experience, for that matter) and then was shackled to this loser because his family was famous in their religious circle,” Kirkland wrote. “Anna Duggar was taught that her sole purpose in life, the most meaningful thing she could do, was to be chaste and proper, a devout wife, and a mother.”

In other words, Anna Duggar might be staying with Josh simply because she has no idea what she’d do with her life without him – she was not raised to be an independent woman. The Jill & Jessa: Counting On special provided proof of just how helpless Anna is without her husband. While Josh Duggar completes a stint in a “Christian recovery center,” Anna Duggar is relying on her in-laws to provide for her and her four children. She’s even been sleeping in the girls’ room at Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar’s house.

And speaking of Josh Duggar’s family, Madam Noire writer Charing Ball speculates that they might have something to do with Anna’s decision to stay with Josh.

“I know we don’t like to think about these things, but there is a very real possibility that Anna does not want to leave,” Ball writes. “And it has less to do with God’s supposed laws, but her own ego.”

Anna Duggar does seem to believe that she and Josh are very important Christians and that their marital issues affect millions of people. As Cosmopolitan reports, Anna said that she views her failed marriage “a betrayal for those that call themselves Christians” because so many Christians watched her and Josh exchange their marriage vows on TV.

Charing Ball believes that Anna Duggar isn’t leaving Josh because she’s become too attached to the “fame, power, and prestige” that she got to taste after marrying into the Duggar family and scoring a role on 19 Kids and Counting. Obviously, Anna still wants to be on TV or she wouldn’t have appeared on Jill & Jessa: Counting On.
