Dallas Cowboys News: The Cowboys Can Still Make The Playoffs — Here’s How

The Dallas Cowboys have had problem after problem this year, and it shows in their 4-9 record and being in last place in the NFC East. With only three games remaining in the season, one may think it’s over, but that isn’t quite the case. Believe it or not, the Cowboys can still make it into the 2015 NFL Playoffs and here’s how.

Now, they can’t do it all on their own. They’re going to need to win their final three games of the season and get a lot of help from numerous other teams in the league. First, they have to defeat the New York Jets (8-5) at home, beat the Buffalo Bills (6-7) on the road, and then take out the Washington Redskins (6-7) in Dallas.

That won’t be overly easy as those teams are fighting for playoff spots as well. As reported by Fox Sports, Jets head coach Todd Bowles said the Jets “definitely have to win out, and that still may not be good enough.”

Winning those three games is all that Dallas can control, but it won’t get them in the playoffs. They need a lot of help to do it, and each of the remaining three weeks will bring about something new in way of what needs to happen.

Week 15 – The Cowboys need these things to happen:

  • Carolina Panthers defeat the New York Giants
  • Buffalo Bills defeat the Washington Redskins
  • Arizona Cardinals defeat the Philadelphia Eagles

All of these things could easily happen as the Cowboys need the favorites to win in each of the three games. The biggest obstacle will be for the Cowboys to pull off the upset and take down the New York Jets.

Week 16 – The Cowboys need these things to happen:

  • Minnesota Vikings defeat the New York Giants
  • Washington Redskins defeat the Philadelphia Eagles

Both of these things are also possible, but things could be made complicated from the happenings of Week 15. If either the Redskins or Eagles win in Week 15, then the Cowboys need that team to lose in Week 16.

It’s complicated, but it works out when looking at the entire mathematical formula and the NFL standings on CBS Sports. It’s hard to believe the Cowboys are even still in the hunt at 4-9, but they are.

Week 17 – The Cowboys need these things to happen:

  • Philadelphia Eagles defeat the New York Giants

Now, the Cowboys also need to win this weekend and that’s the obvious thing. If both the Giants and Eagles lose in Weeks 15 and 16, then it will not matter who wins the Week 17 game between the two teams.

Should the Giants or Eagles have seven wins going into Week 17, the Cowboys would need that team to lose their season finale.

The Cowboys winning out through the rest of the season and ending at 7-9, they would be 4-2 in the division. That means they would win any tiebreaker at the end of the regular season whether it is a three-way or even a four-way tie in the NFC East at 7-9.

It’s really quite amazing to think that teams like the Dallas Cowboys and New Orleans Saints have had such rough seasons yet can still make the playoffs. The league has just had a lot of mediocrity this year, and most of it actually falls in the NFC which is good for the Cowboys.

The Dallas Cowboys know this season has been riddled with injuries and a lot of inconsistency and underachievement. The season isn’t lost, but a lot needs to be done for it to continue into the 2015 NFL Playoffs. Some are already looking ahead to next year though, and it’s almost a certainty that many changes will be coming.
