Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid are the it-girls of the moment, but who knew they could be fairy godmothers too?
The longtime friends and high powered fashion models have turned one former homeless skateboarder’s life completely around, E! Online reports.
John Economou used to live on Venice Beach and was once known as the Prince of Venice because of his ability to pick up girls on the beach when he wanted a warm bed to sleep in instead of the sand. But now he’s a model signed to Two Management and it’s all thanks to Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid.
According to John, he met Gigi and Kendall on the beach while they were wrapping up a shoot for a commercial.
“I was just chilling on the beach and watching the water, minding my own business and then I see these people come over,” Economou said to The Daily Mail. ‘They sat pretty close but not too close and they started having a picnic. They looked all presentable and good looking.”
John then walked over to shoo some seagulls away from the celebrity group and they started chatting with him.
“One of the girls said to me, ‘You’re cute.’ so I turned around and we struck up conversation,” Economou said.
Instead of being starstruck, john said that he didn’t even recognize who he was talking to at first.
“We were just talking, and they said I should take up modeling here in LA, ” he said. “I didn’t realize who I was speaking to at first and it finally clicked who it was – it was Kendall Jenner, Gigi Hadid, actor Ansel Elgort, and Kendall’s manager, Ashleah Gonzalez.”
Economou told them his story. Basically, he moved from Milwaukee to California to pursue a modelling career. He’d been having a hard time making it in LA and that’s why he ended up living on the beach, living the hippie life.
“They said they could help me out and get me an agency and they got me with Two Management – the agency I signed with.”
John seemed pretty impressed with Kendall’s attitude.
“Kendall was cool, she was super down to earth and chill. We were just having a normal conversation talking about life, acting modeling, personal lives,” he said. “It’s a crazy story. I’m super grateful. I was just in the right place at the right time.”
After they chatted, John exchanged numbers with Kendall’s modelling agent, Ashleah Gonzalez, who linked him with the head of Two Management, Luc Brinker.
John isn’t a newbie to modelling. Back in his hometown of Milwaukee, he used to do commercials and photoshoots, but it was obviously nothing like the scene in Los Angeles. So he dropped out of college to take his career to the next level.
“I modeled my whole life locally in Milwaukee then as I got older I knew that LA was the place to be and Milwaukee didn’t offer what I wanted,” he said. “So I packed up a bag and moved to LA to live the hippie life, no rules, no nothing just living free.”
John has no family in LA, but credits his independent nature as being the thing that helps push him forward. According to E! Online, Economou hasn’t booked any gigs as yet, but he’s still hopeful that he has a bright future ahead.
“It’s a crazy story,” he says. “I’m just super grateful. I was just in the right place at the right time.”
As for whether he still keeps in touch with Kendall, John says no, but he still likes her as a person.
“Kendall was cool, she was super down to earth and chill.” he said. “I’ve been talking to Kendall’s manager a lot and to Ansel but I haven’t been talking to Kendall or Gigi because they are way too famous. I’d like to say thank you to them—they are the reason where I am where I am now.”
John Economou says his dream is become a model who can hang out in the same circles with Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid and maybe even Justin Bieber. With a face like that, we’re sure he’s definitely on his way.
