Anna Duggar Talks Josh’s ‘Betrayal’ In New ‘Jill & Jessa: Counting On’ Clip, Also Calls Him Her ‘One And Only’

Anna Duggar finally speaks out about her husband’s betrayal in a new teaser clip for Jill & Jessa: Counting On. According to Anna, she turned to prayer in hopes that her faith would help her mend her marriage.

The new Jill & Jessa: Counting On clip is titled “Such a Betrayal for a Spouse.” Anna Duggar actually avoids shedding any tears during the teaser, but she does get a little choked up while talking about her husband’s infidelity. As most fans of the Duggar family know, Josh admitted to cheating on Anna a few months ago.

“It was definitely a hard thing, and I think it is such a betrayal for a spouse to go through what we’re walking through,” Anna Duggar says in the teaser clip.

Anna Duggar says that her husband’s cheating scandal was even harder to deal with because it was “such a public thing.” Josh Duggar was forced to admit to having an affair after Gawker discovered that he had a paid Ashley Madison account. In an August 20 statement published on the Duggar Family website, Anna’s husband admitted that he was “the biggest hypocrite ever.”

Before the world became aware that he had sexually molested his siblings and cheated on his wife, Josh made a good living “espousing faith and family values” as the Executive Director of Family Research Council Action, an organization that campaigns against gay marriage. Josh resigned from the FRC after the public became aware that he had sexually molested his sisters as a teenager. As People reports, FRC president Tony Perkins slammed Josh’s “deceitful behavior” after he confessed that he had been unfaithful to Anna Duggar.

Much like her husband, Anna Duggar also spoke out against gay marriage. Anna shared the Instagram post below back in April, and many of her followers have since pointed out that its anti-gay marriage message makes Josh and Anna look like huge hypocrites — they’re judging other peoples’ marriages and saying that they shouldn’t be considered “real” when their own marriage doesn’t live up to the standard that they’ve set for themselves.

“Not only was it a betrayal against me, but it was also a betrayal for those that call themselves Christians,” Anna Duggar says in the Jill and Jessa: Counting On video clip.

“Here we were as a Christian couple – everyone was able to see us get married and to vow before God to be loyal to each other, and that loyalty was broken.”

According to ET Online, Josh even sang “The Loyalty Song” to Anna Duggar during their 2008 wedding.

Anna says that she still considers Josh her “one and only” and her “first love,” but she admits that her faith is the only thing that kept her from doing something that she would regret after she learned about her husband’s infidelity.

“I knew that my only hope was to cling to my faith because I know if I went off of what I was feeling, I would turn a mess into a disaster.”

It’s unclear if Anna Duggar is suggesting that she actually thought about getting a divorce — there’s a possibility that the thought of leaving her husband never even crossed her mind and that her idea of a “disaster” is simply daring to chew Josh out for his bad behavior. One source close to the Duggar family previously told People that divorce was never an option for Anna and that she was even ready and willing to “absorb some of the blame” for her husband’s infidelity.

In the Jill & Jessa: Counting On clip, Anna never mentions the word “divorce.” Based on one comment that she makes, it seems as though her immediate reaction to Josh’s cheating was to try to figure out how she was going to save her marriage, not how she was going to get out of it and move on.

“I knew that we needed help, and I was just praying that God would give the help and wisdom that we needed to know how to take the next step.”

As the Inquisitr previously reported, the “next step” that Josh and Anna Duggar decided to take involved a separation, but not a divorce. Josh enrolled himself in a “school of discipleship” in Illinois almost immediately after he confessed to cheating on Anna, and he’ll likely be there until February. He’s the only adult 19 Kids and Counting star who hasn’t appeared on Jill & Jessa: Counting On besides the Duggars’ “rebel” cousin Amy.
