Apple on iPhone 3GS: we’ll be there when we get there

Antsy iPhone customers have been anxiously refreshing their browsers all morning as news of iPhone 3GS delivery fluctuates, just wanting to know when their damn iPhones will be released.

UPS delivery estimates have gone from June 18th to June 23rd, and customers awaiting shipment say UPS is holding the package regionally. PC World is reporting that holds are at the request of Apple. According to Apple Insider, this isn’t the first time Apple has teased fangirls and fanboys by dangling new toys just to snatch them away, even after they’ve been received:

Apple has several times in the past shipped products such as iLife and iWork ahead of their launch date. In some of those cases, customers actually received their orders early but were later asked to surrender them back to the shipping company for re-delivery a few days later at Apple’s request.

Oh, no they did not! Seriously? Who does that?

The new iPhone OS 3.0 update is also nowhere in sight, and Apple is frustratingly tight-lipped about the release time. Estimates seem to center around 1PM EST, possibly as late as 2:30- well into the evening hours in Europe and some other places that are not America. Just in case you live under a rock, the anticipated updates include copy & paste functions, landscape typing, MMS and voice memos.
