WWE News: Brock Lesnar Vs. Kevin Owens Unlikely To Happen At ‘WrestleMania 32’

One of the biggest WWE-related rumors going around over the last couple of weeks has been that the now former WWE Intercontinental Champion Kevin Owens was going to go one-on-one with “The Beast” Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 32 in April. While it’s an intriguing match-up, sadly, as of right now, WWE isn’t planning on having Lesnar and Owens face each other in Arlington, Texas, next spring.

On Monday’s Wrestling Observer Radio, a fan asked Dave Meltzer if Kevin Owens dropping the Intercontinental Championship meant that he would be Brock Lesnar’s opponent at WrestleMania, due to WWE not wanting Lesnar to chase after a secondary title. You can read Metlzer’s response below.

“No, they’re not going with Kevin Owens vs. Brock Lesnar [at WrestleMania]. They’ve got to figure out exactly where they’re going with this show, because usually by now they have a pretty good idea of where they’re going.”

So while WWE is still trying to figure out exactly what to do with Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania, it appears that, for now, Owens vs. Lesnar, no matter how intriguing the match may be, is off the table.

Several months ago, it was reported that WWE already had their top six matches for WrestleMania 32 penciled in, which is rare for the company, as plans usually change frequently. However, injuries to Seth Rollins and Randy Orton, and unforeseen circumstances such as an insurance issue preventing Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson from being able to wrestle on the show, have forced WWE to change their plans.

Many figured, since Brock Lesnar wouldn’t be wrestling The Undertaker or “Stone Cold” Steve Austin next spring, that The Rock would end up being “The Beast’s” opponent on the show, because WWE has been looking to do that match ever since Lesnar returned to the company in 2012, and because The Rock has said in the past that he would be open to wrestling Lesnar, especially at AT&T Stadium in front of 100,000 people at WrestleMania 32.

When it became clear that The Rock wouldn’t be wrestling at all next spring, the rumor of Brock Lesnar vs. Kevin Owens began to go around. It’s a match that Kevin Owens wants, as he has said many times that Lesnar would be his dream WrestleMania opponent. However, at this point, WWE doesn’t see Owens as being a “Brock Lesnar-worthy” opponent.

As for who both Lesnar and Owens will end up facing at WrestleMania 32, well, that’s still a mystery. We’ll probably have a better idea of who each man will be facing towards the middle or end of next month.

There have been tons of rumors and reports that Brock Lesnar will end up winning the 2016 Royal Rumble, which would mean that he’ll end up in the WWE World Heavyweight Championship match against presumably Roman Reigns, who won the WWE Title on Monday.

If WWE goes with Lesnar vs. Reigns in the main-event again this year, they run the risk of Reigns, who, for the first time in a long time, was completely embraced by the WWE fans on Monday, getting booed, as Lesnar is the most popular guy in the entire company. But, with that said, WWE has been wanting to do a Lesnar vs. Reigns rematch, where Reigns pins Lesnar clean. So, even if the rematch doesn’t happen at WrestleMania 32, the match will happen at some point.

Kevin Owens will probably be kept in the Intercontinental Title picture through WrestleMania. Also, don’t rule out the idea of him facing a returning Chris Jericho if “Y2J” decides to wrestle at the event, as the two of them have had several matches at house shows, and they even went one-on-one for the IC Title on the WWE Network back in October.

Jericho has, in the past, named Owens as someone that he’d like to come back and feud with. So, that’s something to keep in mind while thinking about who Owens will end up facing at WrestleMania 32.
