bTrendie offers shopping bargains for mothers (invites)

bTrendie is a new, invite-only shopping community that offers discounted “trendy products” targeted for mothers and mothers to be.

bTrendie takes is queue from sites such as Woot, offering time limited discounts on products, but then adds extras on top, such as give aways and product reviews. Items, called “events” are listed for between 48 and 72 hours, and include new and hard-to-find products such as baby goods, fitness and fashion items, accessories, and furnishings. Discounts on listed items are up to 60% off the retail price.

Like all good sites should, bTrendie also offers a social angle. Members are able to review products, and are encouraged to submit their own products to bTrendie, which the site describes as a commitment to featuring up-and-coming “mom entrepreneurs.”

The site is free by invitation, although members can upgrade to a premium paid membership that offers exclusive free gifts and priority access to the latest offers for $19.95 a year.

It’s a solid idea, although not without some risks. Invite only sites do have to try harder to gain enough critical mass to work, but likewise the exclusivity of the site could work in its favor as well if it gets strong word of mouth. I’m neither a mother, nor do I have a young child (my six year old regularly tells me he’s not a baby anymore), but I can definitely see how this site would appeal to the target demographic.
