‘Suicide Squad’ Star Will Smith’s Deadshot To Appear In Ben Affleck’s Solo Batman?

The coming year is set to be an exciting one for DC Comics fans. Not only is Warner Bros. getting ready to release Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice in 2016, which will feature Ben Affleck as the new Batman, but fans will also be introduced to a number of new characters with the premiere of Suicide Squad. Speaking of Suicide Squad, it has been leaked that Will Smith, who plays Deadshot in the movie, may be in negotiations to appear in the next solo movie for the caped crusader.

According to Latino Review, Smith is currently in talks about appearing in Batman’s next standalone film, tentatively titled The Batman. Although Smith’s character in Suicide Squad is admittedly a villain, it appears as though producers want the character to team up with Batman in order to defeat a larger threat to humanity.

Although the plot details are few and far between at this point, it is thought that the film would feature a similar set up as the classic western The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly. If this turns out to be true, then fans can expect to see Batman agreeing to a temporary partnership with Deadshot in order to take out a greater evil. The identity of the main villain has yet to be released but would likely have to be a significant threat if Batman enlists the help of Deadshot.

The new rumors, according to Comic Book, confirm earlier speculation that the studio was ready to move forward with Affleck as Batman for the foreseeable future. Additionally, the outlet is reporting that both the studio executives and the actors are “enthusiastic” about the possibility of Smith joining Affleck on the big screens.

While this news may come as a surprise to some fans, there is actually some precedent in the comics for a partnership between Deadshot and Batman. In fact, the two actually have a long history of battling each other that stretches back for decades. More recently, the two have stopped fighting each other and have partnered up on several different missions.

That being said, it still is not clear if the movie will follow the comics closely. Even less clear is how close Deadshot’s relationship with Batman will be, especially considering their history as enemies. Whatever storyline the writers choose to pursue, it is likely that the events in Suicide Squad will have a direct impact on the main plot of standalone Batman movie.

Additionally, the idea that Deadshot will team up with Batman in a future movie adds to the existing theories concerning Batman’s appearance in Suicide Squad. Is it possible that Batman’s cameo in Suicide Squad will set up the storyline for The Batman? Will their relationship working together begin in Suicide Squad? At this point, only time will tell the exact nature of Batman’s partnership with Deadshot and how the two reach their tentative agreement.

With all of that in mind, it should be noted that nothing official has been released on the matter. However, if Smith inks a contract to appear alongside Affleck in the next standalone Batman film, then it would surely add even more hype to the hit franchise. Hopefully, an announcement will be made before the movies premiere in 2016.

Suicide Squad is directed by David Ayer and stars Smith, Jared Leto, Margot Robbie, Joel Kinnaman, and Jai Courtney. The movie is scheduled to be released in theaters on August 5, 2016. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, meanwhile, is set to open in theaters on March 25, 2016. The film is directed by Zack Snyder.
