Miranda Lambert Opens Up About Losing Weight, Says People Acted Like She Was ‘Morbidly Obese’

Miranda Lambert may be focused on eating healthy and getting fit, but that doesn’t mean the “Automatic” singer is obsessing over her recent weight loss.

Last year, Miranda Lambert made headlines after she unveiled a 20-pound weight loss during the Country Music Awards. While Miranda previously admitted that it feels good to know that her “s***’s not jiggling” while she’s onstage performing, Lambert is now opening up about her disappointment with people’s obsession with her slimmer figure.

In an interview with Cosmopolitan for the magazine’s January issue, Miranda Lambert admits that she was “disappointed” in the public’s reaction to her weight loss.

“I shouldn’t have been surprised, but I was like, I have the same music, and you’re only talking about me now because I lost weight.”

Miranda further explains that although she’s more conscious about what she eats, she still makes a point to enjoy food and drinks with friends.

“I live big and happy. I go out with friends all the time,” Lambert admits, “I love to drink and eat and enjoy things. It’s important to me. I want to be healthy and fit, but it shouldn’t be that big of a d*** deal.”

Prior to her weight loss, Miranda admits that she “almost always wore a size 8” in clothing and felt that people would act as though she was “morbidly obese” for not fitting into the size 2 Hollywood standard.

“You go to Nordstrom and you look for an 8, and they’re gone. Guess why, because everybody’s a size 8.”

Despite Miranda Lambert’s laidback attitude when it comes to her weight loss success, Lambert previously admitted to Marie Claire that she still finds herself getting “scared of looking bad or being criticized” for her size.

“I’m just like anybody else, insecure and scared of looking bad or being criticized. But everybody’s making this big, giant thing about it. It’s way too much focus on women’s bikini photos, and I hate it,” Miranda explains. She then asks, “Why do we care? I want women to love themselves whatever they’ve got going on.”

While Miranda continues to see weight loss results with the help of an intense touring schedule, Miranda’s ex, Blake Shelton, recently admitted to using a different method for his own weight loss inspiration.

Miranda Lambert and Blake Shelton ended their four-year marriage in July following months of breakup speculation and while both Miranda and Blake have spoken favorably of one another since the split, Blake Shelton admits that the stress of their divorce took a toll on his appetite.

“Well, you know, you should try the divorce diet,” Blake Shelton revealed on America’s Morning Show when asked about his sudden weight loss, Us Magazine reports.

“The whole stress of getting through all of that is just…It was just weird. I’m not eating as many fried pickles and stuff. I’m doing great. I am,” Shelton continues, “It’s just…I wasn’t like, going to the gym. Just stay as busy as you can to kind of keep your mind off of everything.”

Speaking on their divorce, Miranda also revealed in her Cosmopolitan interview that she and Blake “gave it our best college try” in their marriage.

“I had a great relationship with an amazing man, so I know what good is. I have a great launching pad for the future. I will never take that for granted.”

As for the rumors that suggest Miranda is back on the dating scene following her split from Shelton, Lambert notes, “If I ever were to get married again—which is completely not on my radar at all right now—I feel like it’s not about it being a step in life. It’s not about a piece of paper or a diamond. It’s the way you feel about somebody and the commitment in your heart.”
