Tesla Designs New iPhone 6 Cases From Recycled Seat Leather

The Tesla iPhone case is here, and it’s made out of recycled seat leather. Latin Post reports the cases will be made from the leather actually leftover in the manufacturing process. The news is right in line with the company’s philosophy to design products with the environment in mind.

Tesla has been in operation since 2004, with the intentions to commercialize electric vehicles for widespread use. They’ve since expanded rapidly. In 2013, their stock price was floating around $40 before skyrocketing up above $200. In fact, today their stock price closed at $217.02.

Many believe the stock can reach $300 in a few years under the lead of Elon Musk. For now they’re spending billions of dollars to increase production capacity, which will, in turn, lower the prices of the Model 3 — at least, so they hope. And who knows whether other electric car manufacturers might join the marketplace by then.

Their recent model X was supposed to be ready by 2014, reports The Motley Fool, but it won’t be available for widespread consumer use until 2016.

The Tesla case will start out at $45, but they aren’t the only type being offered. There’s another case that comes with a RFID-blocking credit card slot priced at $50. The cases will be offered for both the iPhone 6/6s, and are divided into Leather and Leather Wallet varieties. This news comes on the heels of Apple offering up a new iPhone case. For $99 you can purchase the Apple case, which has a distinct rectangular protrusion on the back of it.

Tim Cook said “I probably wouldn’t call it ‘the hump.'” The new Apple cases are said to offer up to 20 hours of video playback time, and boost talk time to 25 hours, reports CNET.

Have you ever used other cases and tried to get them on?” questioned Cook. “The guys had this great insight to put the bend in along with making it a smart case.”

Instead of blaming the iPhone for having such a bad battery life, Cook instead said that “if you’re out hiking and you go on overnight trips, it’s kind of nice to have.”

Whether consumers are going to fork over all that money for a few more hours of battery life and a hump in their pocket is still uncertain. LG had this fun tweet sent out a few days ago making fun of the new cases.

Tesla cases look much better than the new iPhone cases. It has a simple design with the Tesla logo imprinted on the back, and there are no humps in sight.

Tesla made a great move by introducing their new case just in time for the holiday season. It is curious that Tesla didn’t make any phone cases for companies other than Apple. For now happy iPhone owners can rejoice, knowing they can own a little piece of Tesla in their pocket, because they probably aren’t going to afford the car anytime soon.

The Tesla Roadster starts at $101,500, just to give you an understanding of the average price. Enthusiasts hope that Tesla is able to design a more affordable car so that some kind of burden can be removed from the environment. They certainly made some steps in the right direction with their new Tesla case, and hopefully they offer more products like this in the near future. For now you have a more stylish option to the Apple hump case.
