Do you remember in 2010 when Facebook gave everyone the ability to register for a Facebook @facebook.com e-mail address?  If you answered vaguely you are just like about 99.99999% of Facebook users.  Well now Forbes has noticed that Facebook has updated everyone’s profiles to make their @facebook.com address the default e-mail address.  Read on if you would like to know how to change it back.

Here are the four easy steps you can take in order to switch back the e-mail address om your profile to the one you want listed.

1. Click “About” on your profile and scroll down to your email address. Click “Edit” to change them.
2. Click on the circle next to your Facebook email address and change its setting to “Hidden From Timeline”.
3. Click on the circle next to your other email addresses and change their settings to “Shown On Timeline”.
4. Click the Save button at the bottom of the Edit popup (Don’t forget this step)

While it is acknowledged that this is a real easy problem to fix, it is still not really cool of Facebook to just go alter everyone’s personal information without telling you or finding out if it was OK with you.

A Facebook Spokesperson responded to the torrent of e-mails they received asking why Facebook did this to all its users. They did not explain why they changed it on everyone’s profiles without asking permission but what they did say on the subject was,

“As we announced back in April, we’ve been updating addresses on Facebook to make them consistent across our site.”

“In addition to everyone receiving an address, we’re also rolling out a new setting that gives people the choice to decide which addresses they want to show on their timelines.”

“Ever since the launch of timeline, people have had the ability to control what posts they want to show or hide on their own timelines, and today we’re extending that to other information they post, starting with the Facebook address.”
