Brie Larson Talks About How She Copes Through Awards Season

Awards season for someone like Brie Larson can be a tricky thing to navigate. Although she’s been around for some time, with head-turning performances in the television show United States of Tara and the indie breakout Short Term 12, Larson has come into new-found fame after the buzz she’s received for her role in the film Room.

The 26-year-old seems grounded and focused on her work alone, and it doesn’t look like Larson is letting all of this attention get to her head now that people are beginning to know her name on a wide scale. That said, it was interesting to hear how Brie separates herself from the campaigning and overall chaos that award season brings.

Currently, we’re in the thick of it, where you’ll see a rotation of stars promoting their films. Larson is one of those stars as she’s been nominated for virtually every critic award, including the huge awards like the Golden Globes and the SAGs. Odds are she’s going to nab the Oscar nomination for her performance in Room, and it looks like she may even take the award home at the end of the night.

Larson told E! about the whole experience: “I feel like I’m a kid getting a ticket into Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory.” It sounds like she really has it all figured out, and as far as relaxing goes, Brie’s going to put down that golden ticket just for a few moments to regroup with her family during the holiday.

“I’m just focused on the holidays right now. I’m really excited to go home and celebrate the holidays. I’m super into jigsaw puzzles right not. I find them very relaxing.”

It makes sense that Brie would use the holidays to unwind for a bit, because right after that’s when all of the award shows kick in, and more campaigning. As of right now it looks like Larson will have to attend every award show.

Although Brie is new on the scene to many people, and this is her first Golden Globe nomination, this isn’t the first time that she’s been to the prestigious awards. She told a story where she went with her neighbor one year as her plus one.

“She’s like 80-something. She wanted to get there early to get a good parking space. We got there so early they weren’t really set up yet.”

Brie Larson does seem to be embracing this attention and the doors that will undoubtedly open up for her, but she does have a problem with the term “It girl.” While on CBS Sunday Morning, she was asked about the term, and her response was anything but typical.

“What is it?” asked Larson. When she was told it meant “girl of the moment.” Larson seemed unconvinced.

“But what is ‘it’? There is no ‘it’! And who was ‘it’ before ‘it’? And when does ‘it’ go away? When did I get ‘it’? Who’s gonna take ‘it’?

She continued to dissect the term.

“It’s so weird. I think it’s a really funny term. I’m just a person. I’m not anything!”

As the Inquisitr reported, not only is she getting attention for award season, but critics are giving her rave views as well. Variety wrote about Room.

“Director Lenny Abrahamson’s inevitably telescoped but beautifully handled adaptation retains considerable emotional impact as it morphs from a taut survival thriller into a hauntingly conflicted drama of loss, mourning and gradual reawakening. With enough critical favor (especially for Brie Larson’s superb lead performance).”

Do you think Brie Larson will take the Golden Globe home for Room?
