‘The Good Wife’: Still Facing Cancellation After Julianna Margulies’ SAG Nomination?

The Good Wife is a legal and political drama series that is in its seventh season, but it seems that this might be the final season for the series. According to TV by the Numbers, The Good Wife‘s ratings are down 23 percent from the same time last year, sitting at 1.06.

Warning: Spoiler Alert!

Venture Capitalist Post reveals that The Good Wife is coming up on its winter finale, called “KSR,” due to air on Sunday, December 13. It will explore the developing relationship between Alicia (Julianna Margulies) and Jason (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), and how it responds to the meddling of Ruth (Margo Martindale). KSITE TV gives a description of the episode that was provided by CBS.

” ‘KSR’ – Alicia and Lucca defend a well-respected surgeon accused of plotting to commit a crime. Also, Ruth schemes to remove Jason from Alicia’s life by trying to persuade Courtney Paige (Vanessa Williams) to hire him for business in another state, on The Good Wife, Sunday, Dec. 13 (9:00-10:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.”

This all sounds incredibly exciting, but if the show’s fate is based solely on ratings, then it seems that it will be ending with Season 7. Christian Today reports that there have been no announcements from CBS about a cancellation of The Good Wife, but suggests that fans enjoy the remaining shows of the season because they might be the last. This advice comes with the knowledge that while the political campaigns at the center of the show were exciting, they have begun to drag on, and things are getting boring.

On the other hand, Julianna Margulies has just been nominated for a Screen Actors Guild Award for her role on The Good Wife, which has fans wondering whether her nomination will make any difference to the fate of the show.

Fortunately for fans of the show, series creators Robert King and Michelle King have been busy working on other projects. Deadline reports that they are the masterminds behind the upcoming series, BrainDead, and they are working on a new series idea called Vatican City that they have already sold to Amazon.

Vatican City tells the story of an American female reporter working in Rome who is made the official papal spokesperson by Pope Clement. This comes at a time when women are still severely underrepresented in the ranks of Vatican employees, at a mere 18 percent of the total staff.

While the future of The Good Wife hangs in the balance and is in danger of tipping too far toward cancellation, People reports that Jess Weixler, who plays Robyn Burdine on The Good Wife, got married this past Saturday to her sweetheart, British businessman Hamish Brocklebank. Photos of the couple were posted to Instagram.

Simply stunning!

As for Jeffrey Dean Morgan, who plays Jason Crouse, it might be a good thing that The Good Wife is struggling and facing a certain demise, because he is about to be very busy in his new role as Negan in The Walking Dead. He will be introduced to the show in the Season 6 finale and will be a regular in Season 7. The cancellation of The Good Wife would free up his time, and UPROXX reports that he is very excited about his new role.

“When my agent/manager called they said, ‘You’ve been offered this thing on The Walking Dead… it’s to play this big bad.’ At the time, they didn’t know the character’s name, because I think it was supposed to be a secret. And I’m like, ‘Is it f***king Negan?’ And they’re like, ‘I don’t know, we’re going to have to call you back, hold on a second.’ And I’m like, ‘No, it’s f***ing Negan. And I’m f***ing doing it.’ “

It looks like at least some of the cast of The Good Wife is already on solid footing should the show be cancelled. Fans won’t know for sure until next May, but they can enjoy what few episodes there are left.
