‘The Flash’ Midseason Finale Breakdown, Wally West Interview, And A Gorilla Grodd Reveal [Spoilers]

The Flash midseason finale was here, and now its gone, and you will have to wait until mid-January for the continuation of Season 4. For those who did not view The Flash Season 2 midseason finale, avert your eyes, and catch up before reading. The Flash Season 2 has amped up the villains, crossovers, and the pairing up of the titular character’s DC Comics villains. Weather Wizard, The Trickster, and Captain Cold were paired to take out The Flash in Season 2, Episode 9, but one villain opted out. Captain Cold chose to act more like his future Legends of Tomorrow character and help The Flash, but only to warn him and then disappear from the episode. The midseason finale then turned to Weather Wizard and The Trickster, as Captain Cold was on the run.

The Weather Wizard brought his usual tricks to defeat The Flash, and The Trickster got creative with Christmas present bombs randomly placed throughout Central City. In an ode to The Flash’s Season 1 time travel, the midseason finale brought back the wand Cisco created to combat the Weather Wizard’s powers. Though, it took Cisco and Earth-2’s Dr. Harrison Wells to develop the magnets and use one of the singularities to find the Christmas present bombs, and ship them into some other Earth presumably?

One of the biggest, yet shortest, moments of The Flash Season 2 midseason finale, was the apperance of Wally West. Keiynan Lonsdale gave some insight on what fans should expect from Wally West for The Flash season 2, according to Comicbook.

“He’s just a regular kid at this point, and he doesn’t become Kid Flash or anything just yet, but, he’s into drag racing. That’s his ‘thing,’ or his ‘job’ as you might say, at the moment. That’s his passion.”

Unfortunately for fans that were hoping to see Wally West become Kid Flash quickly might be disappointed, but no one has promised a quick ascension to the role, even though Candace Patton did reference three Flashes for Season 2. The entry of Wally West into the West family at this point in Joe, Iris, and Barry’s lives will have no shortage of drama, Lonsdale points out.

“I will say, it’s not an easy relationship. You might see some sibling rivalry develop, because he’s stepping into a family he doesn’t know, and he has a father and sister he doesn’t know. But they have someone else, where Wally feels he should be, in Barry’s position, because Barry is already in their family and has their love.”

The International Business Times reported that The Flash would be debuting yet another new power from the titular DC Comics. Though it was not quite spelled out as it normally is on the CW show, The Flash used his ability to create wind tunnels with his hands to jettison out of a building.

Also, for those concerned about Barry and Patty, their relationship was strengthened, as she revealed to The Flash that her skipping out on work allowed her father to be alone and get murdered in the robbery of their store.

The Flash midseason finale seemed to offer little else, and though Gorilla Grodd and King Shark have yet to reappear on the show, VFX Supervisor Armen Kevorkian pointed out that there was more than meets the eye to Gorilla Grodd’s new home. For those that missed this aspect of Gorilla City, The Flash VFX supervisor explained in more detail.

“We actually thought about Gorilla City quite a bit just to plant in things in there that could be shown in future episodes, like a coliseum that could you possibly see a fight between gorillas eventually, and the one thing you really don’t notice is the gorilla army standing in the courtyard and they’re tapping their staffs.”

So, what’s next for Team Flash? Fans will have to wait for the midseason break to come to an end with new episodes beginning on January 19. If the second half of the season is anything like the first, it will most likely be worth the wait.
