‘Game Of Thrones’ Season 6 Teaser: Three New Seconds Of Footage — Not A Mention Of Jon Snow

The recent Season 6 trailer for HBO’s Game of Thrones delivered recycled footage, which disappointed many fans. However, HBO has decided to rectify that with new footage in their end of year video.

SPOILER ALERT: This article contains an analysis of footage from Season 6 of HBO’s Game of Thrones. Please proceed with caution if you have not yet viewed all available episodes or wish to avoid potential spoilers.

It seems to be a thing with HBO to splice together a pile of new and old footage for their upcoming shows airing the following year. HBO’s Year-ender teaser clip is almost like a gift to subscribers. A somewhat annoying gift that fans have to pore over in between shows they don’t watch to find the tasty morsels of the shows they do enjoy.

Let’s break down the three seconds of brand new footage HBO has provided to tease Game of Thrones fans.

According to The Verge, the breakdown includes around 20 seconds of Game of Thrones footage broken up into six points throughout the Year-ender clip that runs for nearly three minutes. Of this footage, only one three second section includes brand new Game of Thrones footage from Season 6. This section occurs at the 2.15 minute mark and has been broken down into three separate scenes. None of which include anything about the fate of Jon Snow.

Let’s have a look at what is coming in Season 6 of Game of Thrones.

This image shows Daenerys (played by Emilia Clarke) staring off into the distance. She is in front of a passage of water and what looks like trees or shrubbery of some kind on the far bank. There is something that appears to be a structure in the bottom right of the screen, suggesting Daenerys may be on a ship.

Daenerys looks concerned, which is pretty much her usual look, especially after she discovered in Season 5 of Game of Thrones just how challenging it is really is to be a ruler. Interestingly enough, Daenerys looks a little dirty and disheveled. Is she worried about ruling in this clip, or has her dragon gone and eaten someone inappropriately yet again? Only Season 6 will tell.

This image shows Ramsay Bolton (played by Iwan Rheon) in front of the House Bolton banners, staring off into the distance just like Daenerys was a second earlier. It is likely he is riding into battle judging by the stoic look on his face. Is HBO creatively splicing these two images together to suggest Daenerys and Bolton are going up against each other in Season 6? However, considering Ramsay’s takeover of Winterfell in Season 5 of Game of Thrones, fans could also assume he is riding into battle to defend his aggressive takeover of the Stark’s property. However, this is Game of Thrones, and it could, potentially, be any battle he is riding into.

The third and final image of Season 6 of Game of Thrones shows Cersei (Lena Headey) hugging her son, Tommen (Dean-Charles Chapman). Tommen is wearing his crown, meaning fans can assume this hug is occurring is the public arena. Cersei is still sporting her short hair, and it is likely this scene occurs not long after the events of Season 5 unfolded involving Cersei.

As we can see from this new footage, not a lot can be decisively gleaned from it. However, it is just enough to get fans watching — and re-watching — until they go mad trying to determine whether the clips are from important upcoming scenes in Season 6 of Game of Thrones or not. You can watch the whole Year-ender clip below and decide for yourself.
