Jerry Sandusky On Suicide Watch

Jerry Sandusky: guilty on 45 or 48 accounts of sexual abuse. Joe Pa’s former defensive coordinator was found guilty of sexually abusing 10 boys over a 15-year period, and reportedly spent his first night as a convicted felon on suicide watch.

A numb and expressionless Sandusky was taken to the Centre County Correctional Facility with 45 counts of “GUILTY” ringing in his ears. I suppose it would be enough to get on suicide watch. Sandusky co-counsel Karl Rominger said that they were simply moving him away from other inmates as a safety precaution, and that there are no “immediate concerns” as to his health or well-being, notes The Guardian.

Jeering crowds. One spectator shouting, “rot in hell!” Spending the rest of your life in jail. Yeah, no “immediate concerns.”

One juror watched Sandusky as the guilty verdicts were read. He said that the former coach seemed to accept the sentence. “I looked at him during the reading of the verdict, and the look on his face, no real emotion, just kind of accepting, you know, because he knew it was true,” juror Joshua Harper said.

Harper continued that the jury worked on the charges before reaching a unanimous decision, reports the New York Daily News. “We looked at some inconsistencies in some of the testimony and we wanted to reconcile those and make sure that wouldn’t discredit the testimony. And so we worked through those things systematically as a jury,” he said.

The defense is going to appeal, but until then, Sandusky remains in the Centre County jail without visitor privileges. The Sexual Offender Assessment Program will evaluate him in the next several days, and his name has been added to Pennsylvania’s sex-offender registry.
