Joey Feek Cancer Update: Joey And Rory Prepare For Christmas With Their Little Reindeer

Joey Feek of the country music duo Joey and Rory has been celebrating the holiday season with her family in her hometown of Alexandria, Indiana.

“My wife knows I love Christmas,” Rory wrote. “I always have. It’s something she learned early on in our marriage about me. Our older girls Heidi and Hopie are the same way. There’s a magic that’s in the air that isn’t there any other time of the year.”

As the Inquisitr previously reported, Joey Feek was diagnosed with cervical cancer last year, three months after giving birth to her daughter Indiana. She later underwent a radical hysterectomy and rounds of chemotherapy and radiation. Although she seemed to have been doing better, in mid-October, her doctors made a grim discovery. Not only had Joey’s cancer returned, it had also spread to her colon. There was nothing left for the doctors to do. Yes, Joey could continue undergoing radiation and chemo, but it would only buy her more time, not the cure she had so desperately hoped and prayed for. Therefore, because the cancer was spreading so aggressively, Joey and Rory decided to stop treatment and return to their home. Joey entered hospice care and has been spending her days surrounded by her family.

Since her diagnosis, Joey’s husband and duet partner Rory has been documenting her battle with cancer on his blog, This Life I Live. On Friday, Rory shared the latest update on his wife and how they are spending this holiday season.

Fans of Joey and Rory have been incredibly moved by their touching story and have performed numerous acts of kindness for the couple since Joey was diagnosed with cancer. Fans gathered together for a prayer vigil, shaved their heads when Joey lost her hair, and continue to send their well-wishes to the country music singer every day.

“Christmas does what no amount of New Years resolutions or self-help books can do… it changes people,” Rory wrote in the post titled “it’s Christmas time.” “It brings out the very best in us, and in others.”

Most recently, Joey and Rory’s favorite pizza parlor, Pizza King, provided the family with 24 gifts, one for each day leading up to Christmas, for little Indiana. The restaurant also insisted on taking care of the Feek’s tab.

“A few evenings ago, we were all together here spending time with Joey and someone suggested that we should order pizza for dinner… again,” Rory recalled. “So, I called in the order to Pizza King, the local pizza place here in Alexandria, and 20 minutes later walked in to pick up our order. When I got to the counter, once again – no matter how much I pleaded – they wouldn’t let me pay for my pizza (everyone there is so nice). But this time, the girl at the counter said the owner had left a few Christmas gifts for Indiana and she handed me a big bag.”

“When I got back to the house, Joey’s sisters and I opened the bag and realized that those nice folks had bought and wrapped 25 separate presents (they’re all different books I think) for Indiana to open… one each day from December 1st, all the way through Christmas. What a beautiful, thoughtful thing to do.”

The kind gesture has touched the hearts of the Feek family, especially Indy because each morning is present time, and she loves to rip open the presents and then read the books while sitting on her parent’s laps. On Friday, Indy got to open her new book on her mama’s lap, which made her day.

According to Rory, Joey is currently doing very well. He said they have been successful in keeping her pain under control, and her spirits are as positive as ever. The family just recently moved into a larger house, which will give Indy a bit more room to ride her tricycle, and are enjoying spending time together as they prepare to celebrate Christmas.

“We have a Christmas tree and some decorations up and thanks to the nice folks at Pizza King, it’s starting to feel like Christmas. And not just any Christmas – a very special Christmas – one that we’ll never forget.

“How could it not be… when we get to wake up everyday with this sweet little baby reindeer?!!”
