Chris Carney, Father Of Two, Dies In Crash When Car Wraps Around Tree — He Was 35

Young actress Tiffany Thornton, who starred in two Disney shows a few years ago, is now a young widow with two small children to care for. Her husband, Chris Carney, was killed Friday morning in a car crash that also claimed the life of another man.

He was only 35-years-old.

The car crash happened in his home state of Arkansas. Chris was the passenger and at least one person was ejected from the vehicle, TMZ reported; the site didn’t specify who the person was.

The driver, a man named Ezekial Blanton, 37, was also killed, Fox News reported. Both men were reported dead on the scene.

According to THV11, the car crash occurred around 1:40 a.m. Friday morning, which is when police arrived at the scene on U.S. Highway 70. He and his friend were traveling westbound, six miles from the town of Hot Springs, The Arkansas Times added.

For reasons unknown, the vehicle failed to negotiate a curve and the driver over-corrected, sending the car, a 2013 Infiniti J-35, off the road to crash into a nearby tree. This accident is the 12th fatality on that particular road since this time last year.

Chris was a father to Kenneth James “KJ,, 3, and Bentley Cash, 21 months, E! News reported. The pair were married in 2011, with Thorton’s co-star on Sonny With a Chance, Demi Lovato, as her bridesmaid and actor Wilmer Valderrama as her date. Demi caught the bouquet.

Tiffany, 29, starred on both Sonny With a Chance and So Random! on Disney, and still blogs for the company. But these days, she hosts a radio show on 105.9 KLAZ, and on Friday, her co-workers posted a heartfelt message of condolence on the station’s Facebook page.

“Our hearts are breaking at KLAZ and Noalmark Broadcasting. Our Tiffany Thornton’s husband died in an auto crash last night. Please send up your prayers for (her) and her family. She is loved by us and our many listeners.”

Carney had also been on TV in his younger days. He was the lead singer of the band, The Prom Kings. He and his younger brother Greg’s move to Los Angeles, in pursuit of their music career, became the subject of a reality TV show on MTV called twentyfourseven. The show only aired for three episodes in 2006.

Since their stints in stardom, both Chris and Tiffany seemed to have built a rather normal life together. The Times did a profile on him in 2011, in which he discussed his treatment at a rehabilitation program and his post-music career — a probation officer in Hot Springs Municipal Court.

He is also the son of the mayor of Hot Springs, thus, the city board staff made it a point to reach out with a public expression of grief.

“The City of Hot Springs Board of Directors, staff and employees extend their heartfelt sympathy to Mayor Ruth Carney … and the entire family upon the death of Chris Carney in a car accident which occurred early this morning. Please keep the Carney family in your thoughts and prayers at this time.”

This is the second tragedy to befall the young mother. She also recently mourned the death of a friend named Brittany Blanton, writing online, “I keep thinking this can’t be real. One of my very best friends is gone and the place she holds in my heart will never be filled…It was such a blessing having her stand by me in my wedding and I was honored to stand by her in hers.”
