Norway’s most infamous mass killer Anders Breivik killed 77 people in a terrorist attack meant to highlight the country’s mass immigration of Muslims and during closing arguments on Friday the killer admitted that his attack was “barbaric.”

Speaking about the July 22 attack on a Labour Party youth camp Breivik said he acted out of “necessity” for Norway’s future.

Breivik went on to say that only two of more than 30 experts who evaluated him found him to be insane. Breivik then criticized Norway’s multicultural society and moral values, a speech that led to laughter throughout the courtrooms gallery.

In his defense lawyer Geir Lippestad said Anders should be acquitted on all charges of voluntary homicide and for committing acts of terror in Norway. The defense based their arguments on “grounds of necessity” and not insanity.”

The defense asked the judge to discount the claim by prosecutors that Breivik is mentally ill and should be immediately transferred to a psychiatric institution.

As Brievik rose to give his own closing argument many friends and relatives of victims stood up and left the courtroom in protest.

The final arguments offered by Anders were not broadcast because the court had issued a gag order on those closing comments.

In the meantime several possible outcomes could occur, Breivik could be acquitted on the grounds of insanity at which point he will be moved to a mental hospital, he could be fully acquitted on the ground of “necessity” which would allow him to go free and he could be found guilty on all charges and sentenced to prison time.
