‘Expedition Unknown’ Star Josh Gates Shares Exciting News With Fans During Show

During the latest episode of Expedition Unknown, Josh Gates received a call on his satellite phone from his wife, Hallie. After completing the call he was clearly emotional, and Gates shared with his production team that he was going to be a father. After the episode aired on December 2, Josh posted a photo of a baby onesie to his Twitter page and the caption read, “My greatest #Expedition is about to begin.”

Josh Gates and his Destination Truth co-star Hallie Gnatovich-Gates have been married a little over a year. Josh and Hallie tied the knot on September 13, 2014 at the Hidden Pond resort in Kennebunkport, Maine. The baby will be born sometime around the beginning of 2016, and the couple is requesting blue baby items on their registry, so it’s fairly safe to assume they are expecting a boy.

Hallie is a marriage and family therapist, specializing in working with clients in the entertainment field who may suffer from artistic blocks, or what she calls “industry fatigue.” Hallie has announced that she will be on maternity leave anywhere from three to six months, starting on January 16, 2016.

Fans have taken to social media to offer their congratulations and best wishes. Hallie was definitely happy to be able to share the news with everyone, and posted a message of thanks to her Twitter account.

Although Destination Truth was cancelled by the Syfy channel after five seasons, the series was picked up by the Travel Channel and renamed Expedition Unknown. Instead of searching out the paranormal, Gates now travels around the world investigating famous mysteries. He was in the middle of filming an episode on the search for Christopher Columbus’ lost ship the Santa Maria when Josh received the surprising and happy news.

Josh Gates has a well-known, fun-loving, bigger-than-life personality with an even bigger sense of humor. Viewers may find themselves in the middle of a geography and history lesson without even realizing it when they go along on a wild and usually funny ride with Josh Gates during each episode. In the latest episode, he begins his journey in Madeira, a small island off the coast of Portugal, and decides to ride down a very steep hill in a wicker sled being steered by two men. He immediately goes on a hair-raising ride that he jokes is not for the faint of heart or the weak of bladder. He is yelling partly in fear and partly in excitement most of the way down as they careen sideways around corners and fly through an intersection at break-neck speed. Hopefully, Josh Gates’ son will enjoy the adventure and excitement as much as his father, and they can eventually share in them together.

According to his Travel Channel bio, there’s a lot more to Gates than his levity. Josh Gates holds degrees from Tufts University in archaeology and drama (which isn’t that surprising). He was recently inducted into the Explorers Club, which is a prestigious organization that is dedicated to the advancement of exploration and field research. Josh Gates’ first book is a bestseller titled Destination Truth: Memoirs of a Monster Hunter. Published by Simon and Shuster/Gallery Books in 2011, the book follows Josh from the very beginning stages of developing his show Destination Truth to chronicling his encounters with strange and, at times, deadly creatures in some of the most remote and dangerous areas on earth.
