Sandra Bullock Adopts Three-Year-Old Foster Daughter Laila

Sandra Bullock recently expanded her family, adopting her three-year-old foster daughter Laila.

During an exclusive interview with People Magazine, the 51-year-old Oscar winner revealed that she had adopted a daughter from Louisiana, who was in foster care. Throughout the whole adoption process, which she started three years ago, Bullock has been fiercely protective of her daughter and her privacy. Even during her big reveal, Bullock made sure not to show her children’s faces; all you can see on the cover photo is the back of Laila’s head and her cute pigtails.

“It was very much like witness protection,” Bullock said of the adoption process, explaining that because Laila was in foster care, she was required to keep her identity a secret.

In September, Bullock had to rush her now daughter to the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. Little did she know, she was being trailed by the paparazzi, who shot several photos of the pair and released them in October.

“Unbeknownst to me, a photographer had followed us and taken a photo of us in line,” Bullock said. “The next day, I learned that a photo of her was being shopped around for sale to every outlet around the world. I had promised and legally agreed to protect her from something like this, and here I was chasing down lawyers — having them begging them to keep her safe.”

Despite the lengthy adoption process, Bullock couldn’t be happier to have a new addition to her family.

“When I look at Laila, there’s no doubt in my mind that she was supposed to be here,” she said. “I can tell you absolutely, the exact right children came to me at the exact right time.”

Sandra Bullock decided to start a family in 2010 when she adopted her son Louis, who is now five years old and also from Louisiana. “He’s just perfect, I can’t even describe him any other way,” Bullock said at the time. “It’s like he’s always been a part of our lives.”

Although Bullock said it took a lot of reassurance and patience when they first brought Laila home, she and Louis now have an inseparable bond.

“I knew she was scared, and all I wanted was for her to know Louis and I weren’t going anywhere,” she said, adding that her daughter had brought “pink and glitter in the house mixed with Legos and Batmans.”

In October, as she was promoting her latest film Our Brand is Crisis, Sandra shot down the rumors that she had adopted a second child.

“There’s only one adopted child in my household and his name is Louis,” she said during the premiere at TCL Theatre in Los Angeles, according to the Los Angeles Times. “If I had an adopted child — if I had a second adopted child — everyone would be hearing about it. I would be loud and clear and say, ‘Yes, I have officially adopted a second child.’ Right now, Louis must be it.”

Sandra Bullock is currently dating photographer Bryan Randall, whom she met when he photographed Louis’ fifth birthday party in January. The couple officially started dating in June. Randall also has a young daughter that has met Bullock’s children.

Although Bullock and Randall seem to have a good relationship, Sandra admits that she doesn’t think she will ever remarry.

“I don’t think so, but I can see myself in a committed, safe relationship where there is lots of love and laughter, and ‘making memories’ is No. 1 on the to-do list,” she said.
