Twitter is down. Well it was, and then it was back up, and then it was down again.

The site has been experiencing problems since early Thursday morning. The engineers at Twitter went to work on the issue and at about 9:30 this morning a message was posted to status.twitter.com.

“Users may be experiencing issues accessing Twitter. Our engineers are currently working to resolve the issue.”

About an hour later the site went back up and the company wrote: “the issue has been resolved and all services are currently operational.”

Unfortunately, that didn’t last long. Twitter released a statement saying: “The issue is on-going and engineers are working to resolve it.”

Twitter has not commented on the cause of the outages. ABC notes that there have been no signs that the outages were caused by malicious hacking attacks.

The microblogging site is now working for several users but some people may still be having a hard time logging on to Twitter. For those that can log on, the hashtag #WhileTwitterWasDown is now trending.
