Chelsea Handler Is After Jimmy Fallon’s Chair At ‘The Tonight Show’

Is Chelsea Handler after Jimmy Fallon’s job at The Tonight Show? If sources are to be believed, she might be looking to squeeze her way into Fallon’s chair. According to Radar Online, Handler is “waiting in the wings” and hoping that rumors of NBC executives and their worries about Fallon’s alleged drinking problem are true.

It’s said that because of Fallon’s multiple injuries over the last year, execs are worried about their investment in Fallon. As it is, Jimmy just signed a deal that will make him the host of The Tonight Show through to 2021.

But as far as Handler is concerned, an insider told Radar, “Chelsea is rubbing her hands together with glee over Jimmy Fallon’s fall from grace. Remember, Jay Leno was grooming her to take over when he retired and both of them were disappointed when it went to Jimmy.”

It’s said that NBC executives are worried that the Tonight Show host has a drinking problem. According to the New York Post, his alleged drinking problem has “gone from being a whisper to a chatter.” It’s said that executives are worried that Fallon’s drinking is becoming “too excessive.”

In case you need to be brought up to speed, Fallon tripped and fell at his home, and his ring finger got caught on the countertop, which resulted in almost pulling his whole finger off. Fallon had to stay in the ICU for 10 days as doctors desperately tried to save his finger. Luckily, they were able to save his finger, but the whispers about Fallon’s drinking became louder. The night before the incident, Fallon was seen out and about wining, dining, and taking photos with fans.

Fallon’s friend corroborates with his carefree attitude while out and about.

“Jimmy generally goes out with very, very close friends and people from the show. He’s not rolling up to 1Oak [a scene-y bottle-service club]. But he likes to drink. He likes to go out.”

A few months later, Fallon was videotaped falling while receiving Harvard Lampoon’s Elmer Award for Excellence in Humor. Fallon was sent to the ER and then explained the ordeal to his laughing audience.

“I threw the bottle and then I landed on broken glass. There [were] pools of blood everywhere.”

According to sources, Handler is seeing a future at The Tonight Show.

“She’s convinced it’s only a matter of time before the network starts preparing for a back-up plan should Jimmy fail to rein in his boozing.”

As for Fallon’s alleged drinking problem, it’s said that every bartender in New York has a Jimmy Fallon story, and it’s no secret that the host likes to go out and party with friends. Fallon’s friend, Seth Herzog told New York magazine back in 2014 of Jimmy’s partying ways.

“It’s always like, ‘In 2000, Jimmy threw this dude out of a bar, or poured his beer on someone, or got on a table and sang a song.'”

Fallon’s former Saturday Night Live cast mate Horatio Sanz commented about the environment fostered while writing and performing for SNL. While working on SNL with Fallon, the comedian called his time with Fallon as “superfunctioning alcoholics, definitely… They say that kind of goes hand in hand with ‘SNL,’ some kind of substance-abuse issues, because it’s so stressful, you easily find yourself blowing off steam a lot.”

Do you think Chelsea Handler would be good host for The Tonight Show? Currently, the former E! host has a deal with Netflix for her own talk show, which premieres later in 2016.
